Friday 26 December 2014

Walks - Sat. Dec. 27th - Wed. Dec. 31st.

Wishing everyone the best of the season -
I hope you enjoyed time with family & friends

It's back to reality and walking on Saturday morning at Tim's at 8:00 am. Join us for 8 brisk kms (or less), coffee and then we're on our way. Let's take advantage of the lack of snow and ice - I fear this is a temporary situation.

Mid-week walks are usually Monday and Wednesday. Check the blog to see who's interested, when and where. It is a bit awkward with holiday schedules...

Announcements: from Rainer...Robbie Burns 8 km race is Jan. 25th in Burlington. Only a few spots left. Yes, there is a category for walkers. Check the website and sign up.

from Libby...Resolution run is Sunday for a few of us. I will need to walk 8K this Saturday but appears no other race training required at the moment.

Walks - Sat. Dec. 20 - Wed. Dec. 24

'Tis the season....and we need to walk if we plan to indulge in some of the treats, so be sure to join us on Saturday at Tim's at 8:00 am. I know it is a busy time of year.....but come, walk, join us for coffee, and we will be on our way. Libby needs company for 10 km.

Mid week walks - I'm going to suggest Monday morning (?) and evening (Loblaws). Check the blog for location and company. Wednesday morning may work for some - say 9:00 am and check the blog first for location and company.

Some years, we have walked on Boxing Day morning. Sign in, if you are interested...9:00 am at Tim's 2 - my suggestion for a meeting spot.

Announcements - from Dawn:  TKO’s brunch - I am wondering if people would be interested in doing a TKO’s brunch early in the new year.    If so, I'll arrange it with Mary probably end of Jan. or early Feb. Let Dawn know or use to blog to do so.

Harry’s Spring Run -  We cannot register as a team as hoped, but we can register individually and be a team doing this for Ian.    There are currently five people registered and I hope we can get a good sized group doing this event.   It’s only 8k and they usually have a good loot bag!!    Lets get together and do this and maybe have brunch or something after wards………..   Remember to let Libby know when you have registered.

from Kathleen via Sharon: A message from Kathleen Kirkham about a race in Picton (many local locations, as well). It is a very short distance but a good cause - a walk for Alzheimers Society in Picton on January 31 from 1-3. The website is: www.walkformemories.ca Nice to hear from you, Kathleen.

from Libby:
As the holidays approach with all the good treats I am sure we will all welcome a walk this week!
Rainer - committed to the Hypothermic? How far do you need to walk?
Santa Race was enjoyed by all the Merry HoHoHo’ers in their large Suits!

Hope to see you Saturday

Thursday 11 December 2014

Walks - Sat. Dec.13 - Wed. Dec. 17

Jan...
Join us Saturday for a walk starting from Tim's at 8:00 am. Any distance will do as long as you come out.

For those who are heading to Burlington for the Santa run - have fun! Take photos for our blog.

As usual, on Monday and Wednesday there are day time and evening walks. The day folks know what to do (don't call Dawn - she'll be away) and evening walkers check the blog - sometimes locations and start times vary slightly - Loblaws and (likely) Shoppers - both nights at 7:00.

Announcements: from Rainer Just heard that the K-W Walking classic has a new 'sponsor' hotel - new Delta 4 star in Waterloo .... sounds nice and has a good rate. About $159 per night but seems to have parking charge of $12.00 per day extra.

Would be good if we can identify who is planning on doing the K-W classic and see who wants to stay there or who wants to stay at the Waterloo Hotel across the street. I always preferred the Waterloo Hotel as it is so close to the start line and those like me that are doing the 10km can be there early to cheer the Half starters on.

Personally I would stay at the Waterloo Hotel and we could try to book the rooms as a block and book early to see if we can get a discount ... let me know what you think.

from Libby: A friendly reminder to sign up for Harry’s Spring Fling in High Park. It is only 8K and we will be doing this race is support of Ian Brown and prostate cancer.

Thursday 4 December 2014

Walks - Sat. Dec. 6 - Wed. Dec. 10

Friends
Join us Saturday at Tim's at 8:00 am for a brisk walk - moving quickly to keep warm.  Libby needs to do 10 kms as her training is starting for her next race and she would appreciate company. Others may choose to travel less distance. But do come out. There are a few of you that haven't been seen in recent months - mentioning no names, of course.

Mid week walks on Monday and Wednesday offer day or evening choices. The day time group knows the routine - check with Dawn. The evening group meets at Loblaws (Monday) and Shoppers (Wednesday) at 7:00 pm. Walks are always better when shared with friends....sign in on the blog with your plan.

Announcements from Helen - The Corning Wineglass Race in October 2015. Helen and Bob really loved this race last fall. Please register early with a hotel room if interested as the accommodations go fast!

From Libby:  Robbie Burns is almost sold out...we have 2 more Shore Things registered. Anyone else interested should move quickly!
Santa suit Race in Burlington next week. Libby will go and pick up race kits next week so let her know if you want your suit pick up.
From Olwyn: There is a candy cane tea and crafts sale at Lou Ann's church (where we host the year end party)  11 am - 3 pm this Sat. Some of our very own will be selling their crafts. Let's support them.

Friday 28 November 2014

Walks - Sat. Nov.29 - Wed. Dec. 3

Friends
Join us Saturday for a walk starting from Tim's at 8:00 am. Distance is optional and less important than getting out with friends and moving. Likely 8-10 km is a goal for some; 6 km for others; something for everyone.

Monday and Wednesday walks, day and evening, are waiting for you to join in. Day time walks - contact Dawn for details. Evening walks from Loblaws and Shoppers (I believe the group wants to change to Shoppers for the winter). Wed. is also Doc Soup night so there might be a few who want/need to walk on another evening. Watch the blog for details.

There are some (Cynthia, Cheryl, Eva, Dianne, Rob, and others) people who tease us with their presence once in awhile. I'd just like to mention that this is a great time of year to get back into the habit of walking regularly. Consider this your invitation!  And, sorry for the late post, folks.

Announcements: from Libby: Another reminder for anyone registered for races to let me know. We have a growing list of people committing to races next year. Helen, Olwyn, Eileen and myself are doing the fun Santa Suit race December 13th...anyone else interested?
Let’s sign up for the Harry’s Spring Run-off- only 8K and we have a team-  Shore Things Walk for Ian Brown!
from Rainer: Black Friday special discount on the registration for Cleveland's race in May on the long weekend:
Black Friday Registration Discount! Save 10% on Any Event!
Use Code 2015CLEDEAL to REGISTER on 11/28

Thursday 20 November 2014

Walks - Sat. Nov. 22 - Wed. Nov. 26

Sun /Clouds on the Spit last week
Well, I think the weather will be testing us this week. Come and join us on Saturday at 8:00 am at Tim's. We can go as far as we want, depending on the weather. The company is great; the coffee is good; the food is fattening...

Mid-week walks are Monday and Wednesday - day time organized through Dawn and evening through the blog. Please let others know if you will be out. And, I know a few of us tend to wimp out a bit as the evenings get colder and darker....so sign in and let the others know your plans. If you are walking Wednesday evenings, declare your preferred location - Shoppers or Occasions. I don't know if a decision has been made as yet...

Announcements from Libby: Please see the updates on both the Race Interests List and Race Training!. Rainer, Margy, Bob and Helen have finally committed to races in 2015 so we have a schedule. Please check out the lists and do contact me to add your name!
Helen has a new race for the fall “ Queen Bee Half” in Cincinnati!. A fall offshoot of the Flying Pig with a walker category. Slightly different course and appears less hilly than the Flying Pig. The T-shirts are fabulous! Looks like a great option! Sunday October 10th. (which is Canadian Thanksgiving weekend). Should we consider a group effort? Cincinnati has good accommodation and is a reasonable drive home after the race.
The Harry Rosen 8K in High Park is a mere $45 until January 27th. Let’s support this year’s race and walk for our wonderful friend Ian Brown!
Sporting Life 10K is another local race for a good cause. Registration is $45 until January 15th and the T-shirts are blue this year!
Rainer is now on the radar for training for the Sarnia Hypothermic Half with 8K on Saturday. I have added the Chilly Half in the schedule for interest but as yet we have no one signed in!

Friday 14 November 2014

Walks - Sat. Nov. 16 - Wed. Nov. 19

We miss you Frances - wishes for a speedy & full recovery

Join us Saturday for a brisk stroll. We meet at 8:00 am, at Tim's, and any distance will do - but let's aim for 8-10 and 6 km.

Mid-week walks tend to be Monday and Wednesday, day and evening. Evening walks meet at Loblaws and Occasions this week at 7:00 pm.

Announcements: from Libby (who just returned from vacation):
Please update Libby on any new races you have signed up for AND any races you may be interested in next year!
The Santa Suit racers will need to do at least 5K on Saturday...tough call I’m sure. Let’s hope the weather cooperates!

See you Saturday.

Friday 7 November 2014

Walks - Sat. Nov. 8 - Wed. Nov. 12

Oh - What a feeling - Great Gathering

What a lovely gathering we had last weekend. Thanks to all who made it happen - lots of work behind the scenes, I'm sure. And a special thanks to Lou Ann (and Paul) for your contributions/location/etc even though you couldn't attend.

Let's walk off those extra calories that we consumed. Join us Saturday morning at 8:00 am for 10 or 8 or 6 km .... depending on how much you need to do.

Mid Week walks are Monday and Wednesday at various locations and times so please let others know your plans.

A Wednesday night walk question - sometimes we switch Shopper's during the winter. Do you prefer Shoppers or Occasions for our meeting point?

Alexis  and Frances - we're thinking about you both.

Please start thinking about next year, race opportunities, interesting challenges - I'm just warning you that Libby and Rainer and Helen and others will keep asking....so get you ideas ready!

Thursday 30 October 2014

Walks - Sat. Nov. 1 - Wed. Nov. 5

Olwyn's eye at work again - beautiful

It's party time, but before we party, we walk - join us on Sat. at 8:00 am for any distance of your choosing. I'm going to suggest that some might walk 10 km while others aim closer to 6 km - Just do it! Hope to see you there - at Tim's.

Week day and evening walks tend to be Monday and Wednesday (evenings at Loblaws on Monday; at Occasions on Wednesday). This week is Doc Soup on Wednesday -so some will not be able to join the walk on Wednesday evening. Let others know if you want to walk Thursday evening instead.

Saturday evening is the Shore Things pot luck year end party, beginning at 6:00 pm. A few special volunteers (and we thank you) will set up at 5:00 pm. A special thank you to everyone (and you know who you are) who has been working to make this event another success. A shout out to Lou Ann who organizes the location and the many of the details. What a group we have - such special people! Thank you so much. Looking forward to the celebration....

 Norma's reflection on glass
Join us on Saturday at 8:00 at Tim's. Distances suggested are 6 km or 10-12 km, whatever suits you. Mid week walks are Monday & Wednesday for those so inclined. Monday is election day - and I suspect few will be out in the evening.

Kudos to our Scotia Bank walkers for a race well done by all. Bob streaked in just behind Lee Scott with a time of 2:30!. Helen finished her second half marathon in two weeks with a time under 3 hours- 2:57. Trish and Cheryl followed with their BEST times this year of 3:20. Superb job all on a blustery Sunday!. We look forward to seeing those medals!

I know some of you are vacationing - enjoy and travel safely....and some of you are heading back home. We look forward to hearing your travel stories!

Announcements: from Libby: Please start thinking of races you would like to do next year. There are marathons and half’s all across the North America and the globe. Just chose a spot! Rainer will be talking races at the year-end party so please let us all know your thoughts!
Any takers for the Resolution Run December 28th...also the Santa Shuffle December 13th- especially those with Santa Suits already!
Reminder - The Shore Thing year end gathering is Nov. 1st. We hope you will attend and bring along one of your favourite pot-luck dishes.
See you Saturday.

Friday 17 October 2014

Walks - Sat. Oct. 18 - Wed. Oct. 22

It's all about the hardware
Scotiabank race is Sunday and I know some of our friends will be picking up their medals (similar to the ones above). Make us proud! We wish you all a good race.

Join us Saturday at the civilized hour of 8:00 am for a walk of varying distances - I'm sure some will want to walk 10 kms or so; others a little less. Whatever suits you is fine as long as you come out and walk.

Monday and Wednesday walks are at the usual times and locations. Let's get out there folks!

Some sad and sobering news this week concerning a few of our gang - our thoughts are with Ian and Barb and also with Libby and her family.

Announcements: from Susan - late post - sorry - no power last night! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

from Charlotte: Shorethings gathering on Nov. 1st - we need to know if you are planning to attend; we need 4-5 volunteers to help with set up (moving tables, etc) and we need your $10 contribution. Thanks so much.

from Helen: Calendars anyone? Please let her know by yesterday or immediately, whichever! That's my fault because no power last night.

See you Saturday!

Friday 10 October 2014

Walks - Sat. Oct. 11 - Wed. Oct. 15

Lots to be thankful for....

Join us Saturday at Tim's at 8:00 am. Scotiabank folks do 12 km for final week of training - company is welcome but check the blog just in case they change the start time. Let's support their training. The rest will choose whatever distance suits. Just do it!

Monday is a holiday for most so I suggest that we meet on Monday morning at Tim's 2 at 9:00 am. We'll walk off some calories - please join us. Wednesday has a day and evening option - you know the drill. Please let others know your plans on the blog. It helps. Scotia group needs to do 6 km both days.

Helen and Bob did us proud in Corning last weekend. Helen’s time was under 3 hours! Both had an excellent race. And, the Scotia crew has added 2 new members with Helen and Bob committing to race the Half.
Announcements: from Charlotte - please bring $10 cash for the Shorethings year end gathering and coffers if you haven't already - support always helps with those little extras we need.

from Lou Ann: We need 5 or 6 strong people to set up tables and chairs  starting at 5:00 for our party.  Please forward your names to Lou-Ann.  Thanks for all your help!

from Libby: Consider the Santa shuffle in Burlington on December 13 and the Resolution Run in Toronto on December 28th. Both have price increases for registration after this week. The Resolution Run jackets are in “Shore Things” colours this year and are available to try on at the Running room. If we have enough registered we will arrange a brunch!
Robbie Burns registration is open for the 8K race January 25th. They only accept 100 walkers so if you considering the race, register early.

from Rainer - Cavan race - A glorious day in the country .... fantastic weather .... a bigger turnout than last year .... 5 ShoreThings were entered in the 10km walk .... 3 ended up with a medal. Rhianna first female, Frances third female and Rainer first male. Margy did not finish the race as her Ashma acted up and she had to be taken off the course. Fortunately she is alright. from Charlotte: reminder of the Christmas pot luck in early November. Please bring your $10 cash contribution on Saturday and give it to Charlotte, our money lady. Greatly appreciated.

Announcements:
from Helen - Yes, it’s my annual plug for the Santa suit race. It’s something that has to be experienced at least once. And I might even register for the Chilly Half this year, as later in spring I’ll be busy with the garden bloggers’ event. Any other takers? Looks like there are early bird rates.

from Libby - A friendly reminder to anyone interested in a race, please let Libby know.  There are very few listed in the Race Interests category. Come on...time to up the walks and do another race!!!

Walks - Sat. Sept. 20 - Wed. Sept. 24

Join us Saturday for the distance of your choosing:
Training distance is 16K for Corning and 18K for Scotia....heading out at 7:30 am. If you'd like a shorter distance, meet at 8:00 am. Both groups heading out from Tim's.

Scotia is only 80% sold out! There is a separate walking division and a wonderful medal highlighting Ed’s Warehouse! Anyone else tempted?

Weekday walks have several options. Let others know your intentions on the blog.

Announcements:
from Libby: One last plug for Rainer’s favorite Cavan (a.k.a. “Butter Tart” race)10K. register through www.runningroom.com or cavanhillsrun@nexicom.net. It is a mere $35.00 with a 9a.m. walker start.
from Dawn & Lou Ann - 9th Annual pot luck dinner, believe it or not....

The dinner will start at 6.00 pm as usual, and closer to the time Lou-Ann will be looking for volunteers to set up and clean up afterwards. This is alway a fun event and the food is amazing, as I'm sure you will all agree.
from Helen: Any interest in the Rome marathon? Check this out:
The Coliseum is the starting point for the Rome Marathon! This event is walker friendly with a 7 hour time limit. Sherry Monahan is organizing a trip with Pauwels Travel Bureau. Thursday 11 September 2014

Walks - Sat. Sept. 13 - Wed. Sept. 17

The New Albany Walkers
Yes, they made us proud, again. Well done, Ruth, Margie, Arlene, & Rainer!

Join in Saturday for the distance of your choice....but some of us have distances to go and people to see....and company is welcome. Join the Corning group who has to do 20 km. or the Scotia group who has to do 16 km. I'll suggest starting at 7:30 but check the blog to make sure. Others may choose to start at 8:00 am and go slightly less. Any distance is good distance.
Weekday distances are 10 & 10 for Corning; 8 & 8 for Scotia....and for the record, that is rain or shine.

Announcements:
from Libby:  New Albany Walking Classic was well attended by many walkers and a huge contingent of 10K, including serious competitive race walkers in the 10K. The bad news is both distances started at the same time and it was near impossible to gain any speed if you didn’t start at the front.  It was a guiding nightmare for Ruth with Arlene in tow as the crowd did not seem to understand ‘passing on your left!”.
A big Kudos to Rainer to compete AND finish with a broken arm! Margy served as his constant mentor! Apparently the post race food was fantastic,- including ice cream, pizza and sliders! The course was scenic and not hilly and the drive to New Albany is two hours less than Cleveland so we should consider this for a Shore Things outing next year!

from Susan: our social committee (or any of us) might want to check into the play The Mountaintop - coming to Toronto Sept 27-Oct. 19 - great play about Martin Luther King's final night - I recommend it. Obsidian Theatre group - reasonably priced too. Any interest?

Thursday 4 September 2014

Walks - Sat. Sept. 6th - Wed. Sept. 10th

Thanks, Lou Ann & Paul, for the party - lovely afternoon

Join us on Saturday for a walk - Meeting at 7:30 am, the Corning couple needs to do 18 kms and the Scotia group needs to do 14 km.  I suspect those who prefer to do less distance will be happy to meet at 8:00 am at Tim's. Sign in and let others know what your plans are.

Weekday distances are 8 and 10 kms for those training and the rest of us will endeavor to support you and do it with you (or not, as you see fit). Meet at Loblaws and Occasions for the evening walks. Dawn and Lou Ann organize the day time walks.

Best of luck to New Albany racers Ruth, Arlene, Margy and Rainer as they head to Ohio!. Do us proud as I am sure you will!

Announcements
from Libby:   WOW has started their fall classes. (cut and paste into your browser) http://wowpowerwalking.com/wp/?id=1032
For anyone wishing to really gain speed, a new lass called Rock the 88’s is being held at Riverdale Park East track on Wednesday evening. Ruth has done this class before and can certainly attest to its success. Do check out the website. http://wowpowerwalking.com/wp/?id=3287

from Rainer: the Cavan race is Sat Sept 27 - Great event in the country .... nice people, all funds go to charity as well as great treats .... the BUTTERTARTS post race are worth it .... home made baked beans and other treats. Only 10 km ... separate walker start ... check it out!
See you Saturday!

Friday 29 August 2014

Walks: Sat. to Wed., Aug. 30 to Sep. 3

Smiling faces at the finish, Toronto Women's 10K
Oh, so many pictures we could be showing this week – but you'll have to wait for our calendar to see how many I can squeeze in! Here's just a few.

This Saturday, starting at 7:30 (long distance) or 8 am (ordinary mortal distance) from Tim's, New Albany and Scotia schedules say 12K, and while 16K is on the books for Corning, Bob did that last Saturday and I'm not quite ready. So we'll swap a couple of weeks and do 14K – should anyone wish to join us. Whatever your route, come out and share good company.

Monday and Wednesday, the New Albany crowd is in taper, with that mere 6K and 5K. Corning: 8K and 8K. Scotia: 8K and 6K.

No one has sent me any weekly tidbits, so if you have anything to add, put it in the comments. See you Saturday!

The only bare-chested firefighter we saw on the course.
Ending our post with aplomb!

Thursday 21 August 2014

Walks Sat. Aug. 23 - Wed. Aug. 27

Someone with too much free time wrote this on a piece of concrete landfill!

Finally, our pool party pot luck weekend has arrived. Lou-Ann and Paul are expecting us to gather anytime after 1:00 pm. Bring your favourite pot luck dish, a lawn chair, a bottle of your favourite and your bathing suit. Thanks so much to our hosts for inviting us back, year after year.

Join in for a walk Saturday morning - some are racing; you know who you are. Others of us will gather at Tim's at 8:00 am for whatever distance you fancy. Those training for New Albany (16 k), Corning (14 k) and Scotia (16) may want to start at 7:30 am. Please let others know your plans. Let's support those needing to put in some longer distances - company really helps. And, finally some are vacationing and we know that they will walk wherever they are!

The mid week walks have many locations and times (day and evening) but usually happen on Monday and Wednesday. Again, please use the blog to let others know your plans.

We send happy wishes Joan and her family who will be enjoying her son's wedding celebration this weekend. Pictures, please Joan.

Announcements: from Lee Scott:
On August 31st, let’s meet at the Bloor and Spadina activity hub at 8:15 in power walking gear. We’ll enjoy a power walk east along Bloor, south on Yonge to Queen, turn around and walk north on Yonge to Bloor, east on Bloor to the activity hub at Bloor and Parliament. From there we’ll wait for everyone to catch up, high fives for our efforts and then stroll back along Bloor toward the activity hub at Bloor and Spadina. By that time, the music and cafes will be all open and people can enjoy the civic awesomeness!
Sadly, the subway does not get moving until 9am. There was PLENTY of street parking along Bloor and Spadina…free until 1pm. SEE YOU THERE, ALONG WITH ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS! Check out the article in the Toronto Star.

Don't you just love Lee's enthusiasm?
Next week, Helen will do the post as I'll be away for the week. Happy walking.

Thursday 14 August 2014

Walks - Sat. Aug. 16 to Wed. Aug. 20

...so come and join us on Saturday, meeting at Tim's, at 7:30 am for Albany racers who have to do 20 kms, Corning racers (12 km) and Scotia Bank (14 km). Most, if not all the Scotia group are registered for the Midsummer’s race Saturday night so good luck to you all! Make us proud.

Weekday distances are 10 both days for Albany, and let’s say 7 and 6 for the other two groups.

Announcements:
from Rainer - Cavan race (Sept. 27th) registration had a price increase Thursday but it is still a great deal and the butter tarts are worth the effort of the hill! See the link on the blog to register.

from Libby: Next weekend is the Women’s Half Marathon in Sunnybrook Park on Sunday. Those registered should aim for 8-8K this weekend!

from Ruth who passed along a message from Lee Scott):  Open Streets Toronto! For 4 hours this Sunday (and Aug 31) Bloor Street from Spadina to Parliament and Yonge Street from Bloor to Queen are “open to people and closed to cars”! Join Lee at 8:15 am at “the hub” at Bloor and Spadina to enjoy the open streets for a power walk. It's such a great idea - the route will be 9.6 k.

from Lou-Ann - grab your chair, a bottle of your favourite, your best pot luck dish and join Lou-Ann and her good looking pool boy (she told me to say that) on Sat. Aug. 23 when they generously open their home and pool for the Shorethings annual pool gathering and afternoon delight!
Plan to arrive anytime after 1:00 pm.
See you Saturday.

Thursday 7 August 2014

Walks - Sat. Aug. 9 - Wed. Aug. 13

Another celebration - Congrats John, Eileen, Kendra & Luc
Lots of reasons to celebrate but there is something very special about weddings!

Saturday brings some a distance challenge so I'm going to suggest a 7:00 am start time and lace up your runners ("walkers"?): New Albany - 18K, Corning - 16K and Scotia plus Midsummer's should complete 12K.  If you are doing 10 or less, start at 8:00 am and then we might meet up for coffee. Sign in to let others know your plans. I suspect there are several still away this weekend.

Weekday distances: Monday is 8K for all. Wednesday should be 10K for New Albany, 8 and 5 respectively for the other two. But we're all friends, so lets keep those training company. It really helps. Mid-week locations are a bit scattered, especially over the summer, so again, please let others know your plans. I am one of the few who still needs evening walks and I'd love company.

Hiking - any interest? Speak to Susan. She needs to get some hikes in - cross training! Below: Sharon & Patty at the Badlands. Tempting, n'est pas?

Announcements from Libby
Running First has advertised the Collingwood Half and 10K race October 4th. Downhill and Fast!. Fall colours may be an enticement.  Let Libby know if you are interested in this race or any others - will add to blog in due course.

from all of us:  Hope you are feeling better, Helen. We look forward to your return!

Dianne and Joan - I know you are out there!  Don't be shy. ... Join us.

Walks - Sat. Aug. 2 - Wed. Aug. 6

Celebrations galore - recognize Sharon, Miko, and Patrick (end-right side)?
It was a busy week for celebrating weddings last week and I neglected to mention Miko's wedding in my last blog so here's she is, looking beautiful and happy. Congratulations to Sharon and her family. One down; one to go!

Walks - Sat. - I suggest 7:30 am for those doing over 10 k and 8:00 am for those doing less. Sign in so others know. I think many are away this weekend.
Monday - I suggest 8:00 am at Tim's 2. Sign in if you plan to come.
Wednesday - Occasions at 7:00 pm

Training This week is 16 (New Albany) 14 (Corning) and 12k (Scotia). Weekday distance requirements are 8 and 8 for NA, 6 and 6 for C and 8 and 6 for Scotia.
Cross training - a few of us (Susan, Dawn, Sharon) plan to hike a section of the Bruce Trail in Caledon on Sunday. It is an organized hike. It is for the cross training benefit that we do this! Any interest?

Announcements from Libby:
Sign up has opened for GoodLife Marathon and Half - Sun. May 3, 2015. They have a relay option and maybe a group of us could consider this...the T-shirts for this race are very flattering! I'm sure that will appeal to Bob & Rainer & Jim!

From Lou-Ann - pool party coming soon - save Aug. 23rd.

More wedding pictures next week - we didn't forget Eileen & John's son's celebration.

Congratulations to all the happy families and their celebrations.

Thursday 24 July 2014

Walks - Sat. July 26 - Wed. July 30th

Sugar Beach
Join us on Saturday for walks of various distances. If you are doing 10 or more, let's meet at 7:30 am. If doing less, perhaps a more civilized 8:00 am start would suit you. Sign in so others know your plans. I think many are away this weekend (weddings, vacations, sleeping in, etc.) - however, please join us if you are enjoying your weekend here in the city.

Training for three Half Marathons is underway: New Albany, Corning Wineglass, and Scotia Bank. Distances are as follows: New Albany and Corning walkers - 12K. Scotiabank - 8 K on Saturday.
Monday and Wednesday are 8 and 6 respectively.
Beaches Jazz Tune Up race  is this Sunday for those wishing some local challenge - 20, 10 and 5 K with respectable starts of 8:15, 9 and 9:30 from Kew Gardens. Come & enjoy the Jazz festival after the race.

I think a few are meeting Sunday morning at 9:00 at the Brickworks. Interested?  Sign the blog.

Announcements:
Eileen & John are celebrating their son's wedding this weekend.
Eva is celebrating the birth of a granddaughter - both events are special indeed.
And, our long last walker buddy, Dianne, is avoiding us but training hard for the Chicago marathon (my favourite of all). Come and join us sometime, Dianne - you are always welcome. Great to see you pounding the pavement last Sunday.
