Walks: Saturday, March 30 to Wednesday, April 3

Happy to see some good walking weather!
The Weather Network tells me that the r**n will exhaust itself overnight, so come one and all to Tim's to march out March – whatever distance you like, as training has not yet kicked in.

Here's the boilerplate info for other options during the week:

  • Sunday morning at 8:30 am at the Running Room on Queen Street.
  • Monday (Loblaws, Gerrard/Vic Park) and Wednesday (Occasions) evenings at 6:30 pm – as usual, weather permitting. It's especially useful if you sign in for weeknight walks!
  • Wednesday mornings at 9:00 am at Tim's – usually Charlotte sends a confirming email to the regulars in this group. Let her know if you want to be added to the list.

For this week from Libby:

Registration opens March 29 for the Lululemon Toronto 10K – formerly Waterfront 10K – held on June 15. The race shirt is a great one from Lululemon and the race does have a waterfront course. Limited training for 10K so consider signing up. Numbers are capped at 10000 and it is popular. Finally it appears the ice has gone and spring has sprung!
Very true, Libby!

To all Shore Things who are away, for whatever reason, we wish you well! That includes our own Susan, who is recovering slowly but determinedly at home. Her report: "My surgery went well, with no surprises, but recovery will take 6-12 weeks – thanks to everyone for your concern." I'll be filling in for her a while longer, so keep those photos and bits of news rolling in.

See you at Tim's

Conquering the last of the snow
Hey, Shore Things, let's meet on Saturday for the first spring walk at Tim's! It looks like it will be just what the doctor ordered to put the Spring back in our steps.

Sunday morning at 8:30 am at the Running Room on Queen Street - join in.
Monday (Loblaws) and Wednesday (Occasions) evenings at 6:30 pm - as usual, weather permitting.

From Libby:

Great News on the racing front this week!. A group of six (so far) have committed to a Half Marathon this fall - The Corning Half - Training will start slowly in July and ramping up. They look forward to lots of company on their training walks! Anyone else interested in joining them. It is a great race, good scenery, with a lovely glass medal!

The blog sidebar is now up-to-date with races until November. As always, please let Libby know when you sign up for races and if you have ideas on new ones!

Wishing all our injured, ill or away friends the very best. We hope to see you back with us soon!

I (that is, Helen) will be filling in for Susan for a few weeks, so email me if you have something to share. Cheers!

Announcements/Information:  from Libby - The race interest list is gaining in size, slowly but surely!. The Summer Solstice race June 21 has a few takers and they would love more company!!
April is around the corner with Race Roster, Angus Glen and the Uxbridge Trail Race at Wooden Sticks Golf Course.. Any Interest??
Libby is still waiting for someone to sign in for a Half Marathon..or even a BIG Marathon (Stacey???).  Come on, Stacey - you teased us - let's hear your plan....and is the invitation open to join you???? Tempt us!

from Rainer: Margy and I are scheduled to do a race in Dunedin (just north of Clearwater) a typical Florida fun race that becomes a party post race .... since it is sponsored by a micro brewery.... should be fun .... and a lot warmer than Toronto. Our real test will come next Saturday as we are entered into the Seminole Stampede race (again a short 5km) but it has a walk division and last year they had some very tough PowerWalkers and also Race Walkers. We hope to do well and I promise to wear my ShoreThing T shirt.  Not sure if this race has beer post race....

from Susan:  Spring break is coming to an end - hope it was a good one for those who enjoyed a week off from their regular work. To those travelling, enjoy, be safe and bring back stories to tell. To those who are ill, injured or recovering, we send along our best wishes to you. I have asked Helen to do the blog for the next few weeks, again - my thanks to her - she always says "yes" and jumps back in.

Beautiful Boardwalk Views

Join us on Saturday for a walk with friends, starting at 8:00 am at Tim's....surely spring weather is coming our way soon....very soon. The distance is whatever suits you and the weather. Coffee and conversations with friends follows.  Looking forward to seeing you then.

Other walks during the week:
Sunday mornings at 8:30 am from The Running Room, Queen St.
Evenings at 6:30 pm on Monday (Loblaws) and Wednesday (Occasions).
Wednesday morning, at 9:00 am, at Tim's - Charlotte sends a confirming email to the regular weekday walkers.

Sign in and come out.

Announcements: from Susan - My thanks to Helen for doing the blog in my absence. Greatly appreciated.

from Libby: Please check the Race Interest List to ensure Libby has correctly documented those racing in the coming months! She's been known to have an error now and again!
March races include Achilles 5K March 17 - always a good race to support. April has a few racing in the Race Roster 8K in High Park April 6 and the April Angus Glen 10 Miler April 7. This is the last year for the Angus Glen Races and the swag is great!
Sporting Life registration fee increases March 15. There are a few ShoreThings registered. Consider joining us! Still time to train before May and the distance is reasonable!.
As always, let Libby know if you sign up for a race.

from Rainer: Last weekend was the Tampa Bay Gasparilla race .... 15km, 5km, 8km, half, full Marathon ... lots of choices. I participated in the 5km Walk section. A total of 13,745 participated in the 5km Saturday morning with numerous waves (the walking section at the end of the start) .... it was sunny at 30C so hot they had a water station BEFORE our wave started ... a hot, hot race .... a scenic route along Tampa Bay with views over Davis Island. The usual Florida post race food of bananas, bagels, fresh fruit, energy bars and BEER. There is something unusual about having a beer so early in the morning. This is definitely an event I will do again next year but next time with Margy.

To those who are ill, injured or recovering, we send you our very best wishes. We miss you and hope to see you soon. To those who have been AWOL, consider coming out and joining us again. Spring is a great time to get walking again.
