Walks: Sat. March 2 to Wed. March 6

Susan might give us first-hand tips for "walk like a penguin" weather!
One more week from me, and it looks like another snowy weekend. But let's try to rise above it and meet at Tim's on Lake Shore at 8 am for a walk – distance of our choosing. Those Winter Stations are still up, and I'd like to see them. If it's a blizzard, though, there might still be a PATH contingent. Please sign in to say where you'll be.

The sunlight is lingering later, so maybe Monday evenings at 6:30 (Loblaws) might get some takers. Wednesday evening will be a Doc Soup night for many of the regulars. Those who wish to can meet at Occasions at 6:30. Again, signing in helps tell each other if we'll have company.

Sunday morning at the Running Room on Queen East starts at 8:30 am. Just show up!

Charlotte organizes the Wednesday morning walk at 9 am at Tim's. Let her know if you want to be added to her email list.

I have nothing from Libby this week, but have a feeling she'd encourage us to sign up for races and let her know which ones. Races and other goals keep us motivated. If you have a non-race goal, let her know. Some of us might want to join you.

It has been hard with the weather, and we do have some winter left to deal with. But the days are getting longer and spring is on its way.
A little inspiration from the Polar Bear racers, Anita, Cheryl and Trish!

Walks: Sat. Feb 23 to Wed. Feb. 27

Angel, oh angel, can you do anything about the weather?
Join us this week for the last walks in what has been a dismal February for walking. And do a little rain, sleet, ice, and snow dance for some good walking weather.

Saturday at Tim's at 8 am for whatever seems safe and fun – maybe more of us will get to see the Winter Stations on the beach this week.

Sunday at the Running Room on Queen St. at 8:30 am.

Theoretical Monday (at Loblaws) and Wednesday (at Occasions) walks at 6:30 pm – do check the comments to see if the weather has once again made us change our time, place, or minds.

Wednesday morning at 9:00 am at Loblaws with a confirming email coming from Charlotte.

And that's a quick post from Helen, filling in for Susan this week. Now I'll share more pictures – including the "Surprisees" last Saturday and their surprise guest. Happy 35th Anniversary, Barbara and Ian! A great time was had by all.

Walks - Saturday Feb. 16 - Wednesday Feb. 20

Coffee with Friends - always enjoyable

Well, I don't know about you but this weather....

Let's pretend that Saturday will be a walkable morning and plan to meet at Tim's at 8:00 am. Plan to walk a short or longer distance but do plan to walk. Looking forward to seeing you then.

Other walks scheduled during the week:
Sunday at the Running Room on Queen St. at 8:30 am.
Monday is Family Day - I suggest meeting at Tim's (Lakeshore & Leslie) at 9:00 am and walk to check out the installations along the waterfront. I believe they will be ready for Monday (but not on Saturday).
Wednesday evening (Occasions) at 6:30 pm - the evening walks are weather dependent.
Wednesday morning at 9:00 am at Loblaws with a confirming email coming from Charlotte.
Sign in, sign up and enjoy a bit of time outside.

Announcements: from Libby: The Spring Roster (formerly Harry’s) 8 k is a fun race the first weekend in April. The medal is really great for this one. The last year for the Angus Glen Series kicks off the same day with the 10 miler - great jacket for this one. Both races are local. A great way to kick off the season!

Lots going on:
1. Folks moving into condos. The big moves continue over the next few weeks and into March. We wish you all the best in your new homes.
2. Some folks are ill or injured or recovering from surgery - we send our very best to you for a speedy and full recovery. I'm pleased to report that Niki is doing well after surgery and is now home.
3. Some folks are preparing for weddings - marrying off their daughters - how lovely.
4. Some folks are preparing for the arrival of a grandchild - a very special event.
5. Some folks are travelling or just getting ready to go - safe travels to all. I'll be heading away and wish to thank Helen, in advance, for doing the blog in my absence.
6. Libby is training with Lee - regardless of the conditions, they git'r done. Check this link: https://www.instagram.com/p/BtyR1KtBhA8/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1qncin33eb49z
7. Margy and Rainer did the 5km in the St Petersburg Distant Classic. As the race started, the sun was rising over Tampa Bay it was 7:00am ... what a fantastic view from downtown St Petersburg .... it was very mild with temperatures of 24C. Margy came in 2nd in her age category and finished 188 out of 286 finishers .... Rainer came in 4th in his age category, so no prize for the old boy.

See you Saturday.

Walks: Sat. Feb. 9 to Wed. Feb. 13

Not too many dark nights like these anymore!
Forgive the lateness of this week's post – Susan is having tech problems and I had schedule problems. But here we are at last!

Who knows what the weather will bring on Saturday! Our driveway is like a skating rink this morning. But hardy souls might choose to gather at Tim's at 8 am, dressed and equipped for anything. Those who have chosen to do the PATH over past weeks have managed to get in 6-8K in relative warmth and safety. Please sign in to say where you prefer to be. (The tropics might be nice.)

Sunday walkers meet at 8:30 am at the Running Room on Queen Street.Evening walkers meet at 6:30 pm at Loblaws (Monday) and Occasions (Wednesday). Always check the comments section before you head out, as evening walk times and destinations can change with the weather.Day time walkers meet on Wednesday mornings - Charlotte sends a confirming email.

A few things from our members:

First, Olwyn wants us to think about the Carrot app (some of us use it now with our Scene card to earn points towards free movies/popcorn):
If you sign up, you can actually earn points by walking! We already walk a lot; why not earn some points along the way?

Next, Helen was contacted by filmmaker Jeremy Workman about his new documentary, opening today:
My documentary THE WORLD BEFORE YOUR FEET s opening in Toronto on Friday and I think your group would really appreciate it. It's about walking! More specifically, it's about Matt Green's mission to walk every street of New York City . Matt is really inspiring. He lives off $10-$15/ day and has devoted his life to this walking project. More than a quirky stunt, his walk is about something a bit deeper: connecting with your world, discovering the wonder right in front of you, taking advantage of every day.
Anyways, the movie has been getting this amazing response in the US (the film is 100% on RottenTomatoes) and now we're opening in Toronto at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema.

He adds: "Maybe this is something you can share with your group! I think they'd really like it. Perhaps there’s even an idea to do a group walk to the cinema!" Any takers, if the weather improves?

Finally, from Chief Motivator Libby:

Motivation alert for any interested in a half marathon along the sea wall in Vancouver in late August. Next week- February 13 the application for the draw for this race opens. You will be notified if you are successful in the draw. Cost is steep at 175 CDN but the loot bag is amazing...from Lululemon.
I could really do with some racers to train for half so I could post a training schedule...just saying.

That's it from me! Be safe, be warm, be well, be happy!

I'll share this via our internal email system.
