Walks - Saturday Dec. 17 - Wednesday Dec. 21, 2016

 Looking good

Join us on Saturday at Tim's at 8:00 am.  The weather and/or conditions may be iffy but come out anyway - we'll do what we can. The friends and coffee are worth it regardless of the weather.

Mid week walks are the same for the week ahead:
Sunday 8:30 am at the Running Room
Monday (Loblaws) and Wednesday (Occasions) at 6:30 pm.
Mid week day time walkers should check in with Dawn.

A question about scheduling for your consideration and response:
1. Next Saturday is Christmas eve - I am going to suggest we walk as usual - sound ok?
2. Monday Dec. 26 is Boxing Day - I'm going to suggest we walk from Tim's 2 at 9:00 am. - sound ok?
3. Wednesday Dec. 28 - I'm going to suggest we walk during the day - say 9:00 am - sound ok?

Just asking a week in advance - would like your input before announcing the schedule for the holiday week.

Challenges - let's get thinking about goals for 2017
1.  Anyone interested in walking 150 km each month during 2017 in honour of Canada's 150 anniversary?  Easy peezy - let's do it!

2. Anyone interested in walking 2017 kms in 2017?

3. Anyone interested in walking 2017 miles in 2017 - that's a bit of a stretch - are you in?

4. Your challenge suggestions go here.....

Races
1. Take advantage of the lowest price of the season for the GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon!  May 7, 2017.  Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and Relay, there's an event for all! Downhill, Scenic and Fast PB course. A Toronto tradition since 1977 attracting runners from over 50 countries. Prices go up December 16th at Midnight!  Arlene and Elaine are committed already.

2. Uxbridge trail/run walk on Sat. April 15th - half marathon, 10 km and 5 km. Sounds like a great way to get ready for spring. There is a dedicated walking category. Uxbridge is such a pretty town and close enough to drive within 90 minutes or so.  Any interest? Susan could be talked into it if there's company - trail walks are always a nice change.

3. Our racing diva Olwyn has signed up for yet another race!!! Sporting Life 10K is now open for registration - May 14 (Mother's Day).  Anyone else?

4. Your ideas go here ....

Let's get inspired for 2017.

Based on projected weather tonight with the snowfall, it is highly unlikely Arlene and I will make the drive down. Love to have the company and coffee but safety is first priority. May end up walking Sunday.
I would be interested in a Boxing Day walk.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas if I do not see you in person

I'm not sure about the morning but I hope to walk. Weather permitting, I'll be there. So often the forecast is worse than the actual weather.

I won't be out tomorrow. The little sore throat I was nursing last week has morphed to a major pain in the throat. Need this cleared up for the holidays. Hope to see you all boxing day. Wishing everyone the very best for Christmas.

I won't be out tomorrow. The schedule for next weekend sounds doable and I hope that I am available then. Be extra careful walking tomorrow. SKJ

If the weather outside is frightful (in the morning) I won't be out, otherwise, I'll be there for a 6k and coffee. Next weekend's suggested walks all sound good; I'll try to be there for the Saturday one. If I don't see some of you before Christmas and/or Hannukah, have a wonderful festive, fun, and safe season! And Trish, feel better soon!

I would like to walk on Saturday, if weather permits. Will check in tomorrow morning.

I'm planning to walk, subject to what I see outside when I wake up tomorrow morning. And yes, the schedule for Christmas weekend sounds great (especially given all the Christmas cookies I ate today!!).

Get better, Trish.

Sounds like most are not going to make it so I'll head to the gym instead. See you next time.

I think I'll stay home this morning - concerned about the walking conditions - may be better a bit later in the day. Sorry to miss everyone - best wishes to all.

I guess this morning's exercise will be shoveling snow rather than walking. Hope to see everyone next week.

I think Ruth may be right - it will take me some time just to dig out the car! I hate to miss everyone but it doesn't look like many (any?) are planning on going, so shoveling snow it is!

Okay, I guess I'll follow the crowd... right back to bed. Stay safe, everyone!

And next weekend's schedule sounds good, but we'll sign in on a day-by-day basis.

I am not walking this morning.

I had a thought for these days when the "weather outside is frightful" - the PATH in the downtown runs from Union Station up to the Eaton Centre. In the early morning it isn't that busy as the stores don't usually open until 10. With a few twists and turns we could turn it into a 5k walk. The problems are getting down there and parking, then what to do with winter coats while we walk inside. We could car pool and start at City Hall parking lot and leave coats in the car??

Just a thought.

Or maybe just stick with Monarch Park stadium...

That sounds good Jan, I'd be fine walking the PATH

I'm willing to give it a go, if the world hasn't turned into a skating rink by 6:30 pm. Must find my Yaktrax.

change of plan, I have a sore throat, so not walking tonight.

I can walk if anyone else is going out. I think we'll be okay (maybe slow) on the road. Sidewalks are likely not safe.

I don't know - I fell this morning on the sidewalk on our street - didn't hurt myself - then slipped and jarred myself by my client's! It's making me.a.little gun-shy.

Bob just got home and said he feels it's hazardous, especially when it gets dark and visibility diminishes. He doesn't often say that. Another regretful pass?

Helen said...

Okay, confirming that we won't be out on Monday night. Might try walking during daylight hours on Tuesday...

Jan said...

Sorry Susan - I'm with Helen on this one. I need to walk off the cookies and all but if I end up with anything broken I'll be ticked.

Susan said...

Ok - I totally get it but this weather is giving me cabin fever.

Helen said...

Ditto!

I think the weather is still going to be iffy so I wondered if anyone is interested in walking earlier with the hope that the light will be better & allow us to find safe footing. I don't mean to leave anyone out, so only if it works for all. Could we meet at 5:00 pm? Not likely, but worth asking.

I won't be out, still nursing a cold. Hopefully see people on Saturday morning.

Against all odds, Bob and I would actually be able to walk at 5 pm tonight. Jan suggests going along the Danforth as more likely to be shovelled. Interested?

Helen said...

Susan, I'm assuming that you have already taken your walk, and no one else has signed in as coming to Occasions. So after your having put the idea into our heads, Bob, Jan and I are walking at 5 pm from home.
