Walks - Saturday May 14 - Wednesday May 18

Margy rocks in K-W

Join us on Saturday, at Tim's at 8:00 am. For those training, distance requirements are as follows: the Toronto Women's Half (16K) and Niagara Women's Half (20K). Week day distances are 10 and 10 for both days. For the rest, any distance is good distance.

Mid-week walks: Sunday morning, at 8:30 am, at Running Room on Queen Street.  Anyone interested in day time walks during the week could contact Dawn.  Evening walks at 7:00 pm are located at Loblaws on Mondays and Occasions on Wednesday.

Race Report from Libby:  May 8th was an exciting day with two races where our Shore Things shone! Sporting Life 10 K:  Ruth finished in a blazing 1:14:20, followed by Joan- 1:23 (wow!) , Arlene and Elaine at 1:26 and Olwyn close on their heels at 1:27. Well done ladies!

At K-W: Rainer was first in his age group and second male with a time of 1:12:56- seems the UK trip proved good training!. Margy- again first in her age group- came in at 1:21. Excellent showing.

Announcements:  from Olwyn: Let's support this race: women’s 5k or 10k run/walk sponsored by Shoppers, on June 11, for Women’s College Hospital. If we can get a little group together (minimum 5 walkers), we can get a discount; and apparently the race kits are quite good. Their slogan is ‘Walk it out…Run it out’, so good for our group.  www.runforwomen.ca/    Any interest?

from Libby: There is a real push by the organizer of the Ajax Run/Walk for Education to try and bring in walkers. They plan to monitor the walking race course for any "cheaters".  The waterfront trail is  a great route to walk along. Both 10 and 5 k distances are available. Register at Brandon Hill 5K/10K Walk/Run in Ajax.

Thanks so much, Olwyn for arranging a wonderful opera evening Tuesday night.

Arlene, Elaine and Olwyn after the Sporting Life 10k; According to Olwyn "it was a perfect day, sunny, not too cold, and very well organized, especially at the end of the race. Lots of bagels, bananas, drinks, water; shuttle buses back to the subway; a great race all the way along the route. Also a very nice medal. And fun!"

Thank you, Olwyn, for a wonderful night at the opera. And thanks to everyone who did a no-rain dance for last Sunday, which was perfect for a race.

I'll be out tomorrow.

Apologies all...the race link for the Ajax walk is not correct . See the side tab for correct link to Running room and you would need to look under races.
I plan to walk tomorrow , perhaps with a rain coat!

I will be at Tim's tomorrow morning, weather permitting.

Olwyn, I'd be interested in doing the Womens College walk. Do we have to register as a group?

I'm away until Tuesday, see you next week.

I likely won't be out in the morning, as I'm working quite late tonight, but will get my walk in later in the day. Dawn, yes, I think we need to register as a group for the Shoppers 5k or 10k on June 11th, I'll find out and let everyone know. I'm interested in doing it also; a good cause, a short race; and a great goody bag!

Planning on being out in the morning if the weather cooperates. Olwyn, I could be interested for June 11.

Will be out tomorrow, but only if dry! Frances

I plan to be out in the morning - if it is dry, I'll be more likely to get myself there.

I seem to have inherited the Shore Things cold, so won't be out on Saturday. Bob is planning to come, though.

The weather is not the deterrent this time. I am just plain pooped. I am going to do my best and try to stay in bed past 5:15 am!

Enjoy your walk tomorrow.

This just in from Ben Kong about the Ajax race: "I am happy to report that it is a done deal, there will be a walking division with officials on course and participants will also be able to “protest” should they see someone with a walking race bib run at all.

We just added a second registration page via Race Roster as apparently some are having trouble accessing the Running Room page (it does not display on some older browsers.) The Race Roster page also has more details about the walk division."

Helen here: I've updated our post and sidebar with the new link. Note that kit pickup only happens on Friday evening, but I have a cousin who lives in Ajax, and if we have any interest from our group, I can ask her if she would mind picking up our kits. Please let me know. As they're only a week apart, only 10K, and both for good causes (if you consider walker recognition a good cause, too), I'm thinking of doing both races.

Update on my update: Ben says there will be kit pickup on race day morning for the Ajax 10K. That makes life easier.

I'd like to walk on Monday. Whether I'm up for 10K, I don't know. Any K is better than no K.

There is a 99% chance that I'll walk tonight - hope to see some of you there. If I'm not there by 7:00, please don't wait. Not coming from home so sometimes life gets in the way of walking....

I'm keeping an eye on the weather tonight. If it's raining, I think I'll stay home. Will check in to confirm closer to walk time.

I will walk only if it's not raining
Will check in later

Hmm - just went outside to check and it's sorta raining. I don't want to walk in the rain tonight either - getting soaked on Saturday morning was not fun!

I'll check in closer to the time.

nice try, folks - the sun is out now and it looks like a night for walking....just saying....

Just walked to Shoppers in the sun - and the rain! If it stays like this I guess I'll go. Forecast is for rain until 11pm - just sayin'

can't walk tonight. see you Wednesday.

Helen said...

I don't know. The radar map I'm looking at has a big blank spot (our current sunshine) now followed by great big rain clouds overhead between 7 and 8 pm. As I'm still coughing up a storm (so to speak), call me a chicken but I think I'll pass. Bob is wiped out by work. Hoping for better things all around on Wednesday.

Helen said...

You see, just because I didn't go out on Monday, the weather was fine. You're welcome.

Jan said...

Anybody walking tonight?? I plan on going out.

Helen said...

I'm long overdue for a walk, so yes. Likely not 10K, though.

Susan said...

Yes, I'll be out tonight - see you at Occasions.
