Walks - Sat. Aug. 29 - Wed. Sept. 2

Love on a Saturday walk
Join us on Sat. for a walk - please note change of location: Meeting at Laird & Eglinton (south east corner) at 7:30 am.  Plan for breakfast at Leonard's after. Racers:  New Albany, Corning and Niagara all need to walk 16K, Scotia a mere 12K. Libby suggests the long distance walkers meet at the Canadian Tire parking lot (Laird and Eglinton south east corner) at 7:30 am. Just to mention, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery has 3 - yes, 3 - clean port-o- potties along the route! The beltline provides a nice shady canopy, just like a hike!

Trish will plan a shorter route 6-8 k for others - at 8 am - same location.
Leonard’s has a good all day breakfast for when we finish the walk!

A few may choose to meet at Tim's, as an alterative - either is fine - sign the blog so others know.

Mid week walks - to be honest, I don't know the plan - check the blog comments as others make their plans.

Announcements: from Eileen:  She'd like to offer her Corning 1/2 marathon registration to anyone who would like it.  They would have to as walk as Eileen - only stipulation - must be fast...  Just kidding of course 😊

from Rainer: A reminder that the 10km Cavan Hills Race is Sat Sept 26 ... 9:00am start for walkers; 9:45 start for runners .... a small, nice, friendly race in the country .... Cavan is a bit south of Peterborough .... only $35.00 entry and all proceeds to charity .....

However it is the fantastic food selection post race ... Home made Butter tarts (these are worth the entry fee), Home made baked beans, fresh fruit and lots more .... a great friendly race in the country ....

from Ruth: this Sunday is Open Streets Toronto. http://www.openstreetsto.org   Bloor St is closed from Spadina to Parliament; Yonge Street is closed from Bloor to Queen.  The streets are officially closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., though last year the closure started at 8 a.m.  If you walk the full route, it’s 13.4K. Anyone interested in doing this? Sign the blog - sounds like an interesting option for some distance.
The streets will be closed again on Sunday, September 6.

from Jan: Your route committee met and decided on some alternate routes to spice things up.  Here's the heads up - suggestions welcomed:

Sat Aug 29 - distance for New Albany, Corning, and Niagara Falls is 16K, and Scotia Half is 12K.  We will start at Leonard's Restaurant (220 Laird Drive - parking available there or across the street) and make our way down through Mount Pleasant Cemetery to the Belt Line.  If we go to the end of the Belt Line at Allen Road and back, the distance will be 16K.  We will provide turnarounds for shorter distances.  Brunch at Leonard's if you desire.

Sat Sept 19 - Corning / Niagara Falls distance is 16K; Scotia Half 18K.  We are planning a High Park route leaving from Grenadier Restaurant, north to Baby Point, south to the Queensway and back to Grenadier for brunch.

Sat Oct 31 - all races are done by then so we have planned a shorter route, about 6k starting from the Brickworks and ending at the Farmer's Market for brunch.

Nov-date to be determined - start at the Cherry Street Restaurant and head along the Queen's Quay to the Airport tunnel at Bathurst

Mon Sept 14 (raindate Wed Sept 16) - meet at Left Field Brewery, a local brew-pub at 36 Wagstaff Drive (close to Greenwood and Ivy - parking available on Greenwood) - walk to Broadview and back then sample the craft brews on return.

Monday night walks - we discussed starting at Starbucks at Coxwell and Plains (1 block south of O'Connor) for a change from Loblaws.  Advantage is that we can go in all directions from there including going down into Taylor Creek Park (while it is still light at night).  We can discuss with the usual Monday night walker.

from Rainer: Margy and Rainer did the 'Wes Run 4 Youth race in Neustadt. All proceeds aid youth with mental health issues. Friendly race with good food after. There were 35 walkers and Margy and I came in 1st and 3rd overall. Congrats!

from Bob Ramsay (Jean's Marines):  Jean and Bob are putting together a team of JeansMarines alums to do the Toronto Corporate Run on Wed, Sept 16th at Ontario Place starting at 5:30 p.m. It's just 5K  So please join us for some great fun during the run and after. We've arranged a $15 discount on the entry fee. So just click here and enter JMAR-IND in the Promo Code. Lots of us are JM alums - any interest?
