Walks - Sat. Sept. 7 to Wed. Sept. 11

So now we know where the Milkmen live!

This Saturday is the long walk for those training for Ottawa's half marathon. Libby reports the following:

Greg and I cycled a very interesting route on a walking/cycling path leaving from just north of Guildwood Station. It is a paved path through parks along Highland Creek and ending at lake Ontario and then a beautiful path along the Lake to Pickering. I am suggesting we consider this for the 20K route. (Do not have to do it entirely and I am able to plan a circle to our cars.
Anyone who is interested in joining them should contact Libby directly.

For the rest of us, the usual meeting spot on Saturday is Tim's at 8:00 am for a reasonable distance of your choosing. Now that it is cooler, likely 8 - 12 kms seems reasonable. Your choice!

Monday and Wednesday, we aim to walk 10 kms this week (can't remember why). The usual gathering spots - day time group will email each other; evening group meet at Loblaws (Monday) and Occasions (Wed).

Rainer would love to chat up a couple of races happening later this month. He and Margy are planning to enter at least one, if not both of them, and would love to encourage others to join them.

Lastly, Dawn, LouAnn and Sheila are in the final days of training for their big trip. You'll see them staggering under the weight of their back packs along the streets and trails....wearing their very fashionable hiking boots and flattering hiking pants. We hope that their trip is a most excellent adventure.

Bob, Ruth, Libby, Arlene and I (why do I keep finding myself with fivesomes of speedsters?!) will be walking 20K from Guildwood on Saturday. I understand that some others of the Ottawa trainees will be setting out from the Brick Works. So Saturday's group might be thinner than usual. Have a great walk!

I will be at Tim's tomorrow at 8 for 8-10 k. Likely with back pack and boots. Though I won't look as fashionable as Susan......

Daytime walk on Monday from Lou-Ann's at 1.30 pm with possible swim afterwards. And from Dawns at 8.30 am on Wednesday. Please let us know if you will be joining us.

Helen, you and your speedies will love this walk; it's a beautiful valley, all the way down to Lake Ontario! (it's my old stompin' ground, actually!) I won't be out Saturday, as I'll be dragon boat racing down at Marilyn Bell park. Happy weekend to all!

Hi
I'd like to join you at Guildwood tomorrow if it's an early walk. Are you planning for 7 am? And if so, could I get specific location for meeting up?

Many thanks
Dianne

The 20K walk start is from the entrance to Greenvale Park at the top of Livingston Ave. This is one block north of the Guildwood Go Station . Go north on Celeste Ave (left turn from Kingston Road coming east) then left turn at first block north (Greenvale Terrace) this circles round to Livingston and then right to park entrance.
Start time will be 7:30am ish.

Yes, Eva and Cheryl have very kindly agreed to push and pull me 20k starting from the brickworks at 8 on saturday morning. Due to my less than stellar pace we decided to stay closer to home. Getting good results from chiro and hoping to be back up to a decent speed soon. Let me know how you all like to Guildwood route. Maybe we can add it to our repertoire (sp?).

I can't decide where to walk tomorrow or how far.....must be that white wine that I made and then consumed. So I may see some of you tomorrow at Tim's or at the eastern 20 km meeting point.

top embarrassed to sign my name....

Monday - I won't be out tonight; still recovering from the dragon boat regatta, where I'm happy to report, we won a silver medal!
Might be out on Wednesday....

Hi Everyone! I'm sharing an invite for an event we have planned for Jeanny. Some of you may remember Jeanny. She has walked with us a few times on Sat. and she did the K.W Walking Classic with us one time. Jeanny lives in the west end so finds it difficult to join us often. In any case I wanted to share this in case you hadn't heard about her accident and in case you'd like to join us next Wed. evening. Alexis

Dear Friends , as most of you may have heard , on Mon. Aug. 26th, while on a family vacation in Edmonton Alberta, Jeanny Scantlebury ( Manager, ASD) and her family Patrick, Zoe and Malcolm were in a serious car accident. While all of the family were impacted in some way by the accident their daughter Zoe, (21) an Engineering student at Queens University and who was on a coop- work in Alberta was seriously injured. Initially she was in coma but has now regained consciousness and is making steady progress.
A gathering of friends and colleagues of Jeanny and Pat Scantlebury will be taking place on Wednesday September 18, 2013 at The DUKE Of SOMERSET which is located at 655 Bay Street; in order to sign cards of support and help raise funds for the family. While this is not a Surrey Place Centre sponsored event, we are helping spread the word to Jeanny’s friends and colleagues.
If you would like to attend or have any questions please contact Alexis Gaum @ x2236 or Dawn Brown @x 2317. (Any time after 5p.m) Please feel free to share the invite with anyone who may know the family and be interested in attending.

Thank you

Jan - let's decide at 6:30. I can go if there isn't lightening.

will you check the blog again at 6:30?

Susan

Jan said...

will do - just went outside to check - looking a little ominous, and the forecast gives 70% chance of precipitation - but if it's not too bad at 6:30 I'll consider it.

I am at home, so can be there in minutes

Just arrived home after walking around hot, compost treatment plants all day wearing long pants and steel-toed rubber boots. Not sure if my feet are up to hills yet (plus, there's a big grey cloud tracking our way), but give me a few minutes. Will check in again shortly and decide.

I'm heading out at 6:43. Doesn't look like rain just now.
See you there.
