Walks: Sat-Wed, June 8 to 12

An enthusiastic selection of our Niagara Falls Half Marathon crew
Well done all you Niagara Falls Halfsies! Our Ruth cracked the top three overall, as third-place walker, and Lou-Ann achieved a personal best with a sub-three-hour time. In fact, everyone had great results, and the rain held off. Hooray!

Here's a race report from Debbie:
We had a great weekend. The race course itself was beautiful, mostly along the river, very flat, passing by the Falls twice, with lush greenery everywhere. We shared pre-race and post-race meals together, some of us visited wineries and enjoyed wine tastings, some did an evening Ghost Walk of Niagara Falls, some visited the casino, etc. Highly recommended for a weekend getaway!
If you'd like to try this race next year, June 1, 2014, an earlybird rate of only $66 applies till June 30, 2013. Unconfirmed rumours suggest that some of us have already bitten. Here's the registration link. The Diplomat Hotel is also prepared to provide a break on the room rate, and to group all rooms together (thanks for arranging that, Rainer). Say Aye! if you're interested.

It's best to grab earlybird rates while you can. Besides the savings, you're assured of being registered. The Army Run Half, for example, is now full. I know there were a few who were still considering it.

Saturday's training: Dubliners, 16K; Midsummers, 10K. The 16K group might want to get it done earlier with a 7:30 start. The 10K group could start at 8. State your preference when you sign in, please and thanks.

Monday and Wednesday: Everyone has 8K both days. Monday night, weather permitting, will be business as usual from Loblaws at 7 pm. Wednesday, we all loved the hills from Occasions. Right?

This weekend is also Through the Garden Gate, the city's biggest garden tour – in case you hanker after some garden voyeurism. I'm volunteering on Sunday, so look for me if you go.

Maureen, if you're still reading this out in Ottawa, have a happy birthday from your ol' walking buds.

And remember that next weekend is the walk from Libby's. Please let her know if you're coming, if you haven't already done so. Right now. Before you forget. That's good gals and guys!

I will not be out on Saturday, going to Michigan to pick-up my daughter. Enjoy the garden tour for those going and your Saturday walk. I will surely be at Libby's the next week though!

Dang, my procrastination caught me - I meant to sign up for the Ottawa race. One bright spot - from the website

"The 2013 Canada Army Run has sold in record time, but don’t despair! During the official Canada Army Run Bib Transfer Period, which will run for three weeks beginning August 9, you may be able to purchase a bib from a registrant who is no longer able to participate. Check back here in mid-July for details and stay connected via Facebook and Twitter! "

So I guess I'll have to check back in August.
I'll be out on Saturday for (gulp) 16k and I think a 7:30 start is a good idea.

And Libby I will be there for the 15th.

Congrats to all the Niagara crowd. Looked like a great race last weekend.
Arlene and I will be out at 8am for a short 6 K. We are doing Alfie Shrubb on Sunday (last minute decision). A new location and venue this year.

I'll be at Tim's for 8:00 tomorrow, for a short walk, as I'm hoping that my cousin will be joining me. I hope the weather cooperates!

I'll definitely be at Libby's the following week.

Best wishes to the gardeners, travelers, and early risers.

Ok so I didn't sync my calendar to my brain - I won't be out tomorrow after all. I'm going up to camp for a cleanup weekend that I planned 2 months ago. Have a good walk everyone.

Bob and I want to be there for 7:30 to do 16K. Well, maybe "want" is the wrong verb. As Jan is away, I'm hoping we can get a ride from Leverne -- just in case you read this. I'll send you a message separately.

I won't be out tomorrow morning, but will join the daytime walkers next week. And I just emailed Libby to say I'll be there on the 15th.

See you next time,
Sheila

Geez, Louise, another rainy evening on Monday? I'll check the weather radar later to see if there'll be a break in the clouds. If it's a heavy downpour, will probaly give it a pass.

Jan said...

Just looked at the forecast for the rest of the evening - in a word, rain. So even though I missed Saturday, unless it miraculously clears up I think I'll give it a miss tonight.

I'm with Jan, if it's raining, I'm cocooning

Don't know if I trust it, but the radar map I just saw had a small, rain-free gap between about 7 and 8:30. Anyone? (And here's the "b" missing from that "probably" earlier.)

Jan said...

I just went outside and it's windy and raining and cold - I am going to give it a miss tonight.

Helen said...

Okay, Bob and Jan are both giving it a miss tonight, so I guess I will, too. See you Wednesday, I hope.

Helen said...

I plan to walk tonight, but I'll be over at Dawn's beforehand, doing some blog trouble-shooting. See you at 7 for hills from Occasions.

Anonymous said...

I should be there too.
