Walks: Sat-Wed, Oct. 13-17

Scary sights on our last night of hill training
We're winding down to the end of race season, with one last Saturday "long" walk (in relative terms) before Detroit. For the full marathoners, and those wishing to join them, it's 13K. Leverne requests a 7 am start, and if the weather's nice we'll do the Spit. The half marathoners are doing 8K, but Trish tells me that some will be walking on Sunday. Non-racers are invited to set their own time and distance. Everyone, please sign in to say when and where you'll be, and for which distance.

Monday, both sets of racers, it's 6K; Wednesday, it's 5K. Sign in, kids. It's no fun to show up and find no one to walk with.

This is where I introduce the concept of Knuckle-down Knovember (or Nuckle-down November, if you prefer) for anyone doing the 2012 in 2012 Challenge. We soon won't have race schedules to force us to take those extra steps, and less-clement weather and the holiday season in December will loom to drag us down. So I propose teaming up for extra walks in November – 5K here and there will make a huge difference, and all the better with company. If you're walking (morning, lunchtime, evening), let people know in the comments so we can be aware of local clusters.

I have no birthdays on my calendar for this week, but have a feeling I'm missing some of our newer Shore Things. If you haven't heard a birthday shout-out from me, please email me your birth date, and take pity on my sieve-like brain. We love you and wish you happy birthday, whenever it is!

I am expecting to be at Tim's for 8.00 for 8k - unless you want to start earlier, Lou-Ann?

Monday our "taking Charlie for a walk" group will be starting from my house at 1.15 pm. Wednesday from my house (without Charlie) at 9.00 am.

I'll be happy to do some extra in November - we have spent most of this month in the car so far and it will probably be the same next week, so I'll have a lot of catching up to do.

As I have to be in Kingston by 1pm, I am going to have to pass on the Saturday walk, so please don't wait for me. I'll be doing the extra walking in November to catch up on my kilometreage... the pressure is on now.
See you all on Monday... have a great weekend.

Hi Everyone! Happy Autumn! I'm planning on showing up to cheer on the detroiters so keep me in mind if you need me to stuff something in my backpack while you bust your butt! Also.....I'm hoping to try a slooww 3-5 km walk very soon....so if there are any "newbees" or recovering walkers please let me know so we can team up and try to catch up to the speedsters! I'm hoping to get out the Sat. after detroit weekend!

I 'earned' a $29 gift voucher from Lee for doing 1600. It's for new Balance apparel or shoes. However, it is only good at a couple of shops in Burlington or Oakville, so I won't be able to use it. If anyone would like it, please let me know and you can have it.

As Leverne won't be joining us for 13K after all, do the 13K people want to sleep in a little longer? We could meet at 7:30 or even 8... What say?

Ruth said...

I'm always happy to sleep in. See you at 8:00 unless I notice differently on the blog.

Not sure what I'll do, so don't wait for me if I'm not there. May just walk earlier from home and avoid the spit for something with a bit more challenge - my last chance to prepare!

If it continues to be crazy windy as well as wet tonight, I don't relish riding over on the scooter. Might just walk from home. I'll check in later.

Hi All, I'm planning on walking tonight (Monday) from Loblaws unless it's a torrential downpour. See Susan (?) at 7; and congrats, Dawn, on your prize!
