Walk: Sat. Jan. 15 @ Tim's

See? We are a perfectly well-behaved group.
Come out on Saturday and play another game of weather roulette. Judging by last Saturday, we know that very little daunts a Shore Thing! We start at 8 am, and we go 10K.

Here are a few things for you to think about:

Long-Sleeve T-Shirts:

Samples will be at Tim's on Saturday for you to try: a Women's M and L and a Men's M. However, the sizing is comparable to our short-sleeve tee (same manufacturer), so you can use that as your guide. Women's comes with a zip-neck, Men's comes with a mock-turtleneck (unless we can get 12 or more Men's orders). We'll have the Shore Things logo on front and back, as for our other tee.

The price, including tax, will be $36.50. Please pay by cheque, made out to Charlotte.

We need to get our order in quickly, to have our tees ready by the Chilly Half.

Walking Training with WOW:

If you're interested in improving your walking form – getting better results with less effort – Arlene has talked to the best trainer we know, Lee Scott of Wow Powerwalking. Here's Arlene's message:

Hi Shore Things,
Are you interested in additional training this winter and spring? Lee Scott of WOW Powerwalking can offer us the following as enhanbcements to our regular walking routines:
 > a 6 week course emphasizing half form and half speed
This is designed to improve performance for our hardcore walkers and racers. Lee suggests either mid-February to the end of March OR beginning of March to mid-April
 > a 2-hour workshop that emphasizes proper power walking form
This single session is geared to the more casual walker but can be expanded if participants are interested
 > a lecture on nutrition suitable for casual walking or racing
Lee is not a nutritionist herself but has extensive knowledge on the subject
I'm assessing your interest before discussing specifics with Lee. Please let me know your thoughts.
Arlene

The comments are a good place to post general interest in the tees or the training. Or, you can contact the coordinators directly: Norma about the tees or Arlene about the training.

Norita is this weekend's birthday girl. We think about you, Norita, so drop by anytime.

Hello all,
I won't be out for several Saturdays. I have signed up for a WOW course out in Oakville. I am doing it with my cousin who is also a power walker and is trying to get back in form just like me. We are being each others motivation.I am going to try and get her to come join us Saturday mornings after our course. If you do Lee's course at the later date I would be interested in joining you. Also if you needed an extra body for numbers, I would join the race nutrition group. A refresher is always good. I will check my shirt size and let Norma know directly.

Hi all,

I'm back from my Caribbean cruise!
Without wishing to rub it in, last Saturday, while you were power-slogging through the snowdrifts, I was power-sweating round and round the ship deck, in a tank top and shorts, in 30 degree sunshine, looking out at a turqoise ocean. Just saying.

However, now I'm back to real life, and will join you, dressed to the eyeballs, on Saturday.

I'm in for a M shirt, will bring a cheque Saturday, and am also interested in Lee's 2-hour form workshop as well as the nutrition one (providing she approves of Hagen-Daz as a source of protein).

See you all Saturday!

the photo might suggest that sometimes we are well behaved, but I do question our sanity!!

I will be out on Saturday all things being equal.

I am away for a couple of weeks in March, so unfortunately can't take advantage of the course (which sounds like it is exactly what I need). However, I would likely be interested in the 2 hour one, depending on when it is offered.

Hi Everyone.....I'm still here but I've been battling a bug of sorts. I'm very interested in the 6 week course and the nutrition info! I'm really gonna try to be out Sat. to pay for and try on the shirts!
Cheers, alexis

I will see you on Saturday for our 8:00 walk, T-shirt try ons and of course the coffee! I am interested in the 2 hour class (probably should be interested in the 6 week, however I will work my way to that one) and I am also interested in the nutrition class as well. Thank you Arlene for looking into this.
Welcome back to the great white north Debbie.

Hi All
Arlene and I will not be out this week. I will be skiing Saturday and plan to join Susan and Ruth for "hills" -oh good!- on Sunday.
I am interested in the 6 week course as is Arlene (the organizer) If it is in the evening, the later dates would be better as we would have more light.
Thanks to Norma for oganizing the t-shirts, to Helen for looking after sample showing and to Charlotte for handling the money!!

Hi again,

Suggestion for our 10 km route tomorrow:
I did an hour's speedwalk on the bicycle path (not the boardwalk) along the lake today. It's been plowed and was smooth, hard-packed snow...no ice or slush, easy to walk on.
Of course it's supposed to snow overnight and tomorrow morning, but still, that might be a good surface to walk on.
Just a suggestion.
See you tomorrow.

The only thing that will deter me from showing up tomorrow is the drive in. Last week, driving home was not fun at all.

All of my running shirts are lady's large. So if I don't show up tomorrow that is the size I would like to order and I will mail my cheque to Charlotte.

I am limited by time for making it on time to walk Mondays and Wednesdays. Maureen had been the reason for my showing up on those days but she will be away for a few months.

I have begun to cross-train with Jane Fonda and Jilian Michaels (Biggest Loser). Oh, my gawd!

Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow.

Sharon
