Walks: Mon. Nov. 15 & Wed. Nov. 17

Gracious hostess and host, Norma and David
First, I know we all want to thank Norma and David for opening their home to us on Saturday. It was a lovely venue for a great way to end our year. Thanks also to everyone who brought such delicious food. Once again, I heard murmurings about a Shore Things Cookbook. We might even have a volunteer to handle that one. Alisa?

By the way, Norma is looking for the owner of some lost articles: the couscous plate/spoon and a tea towel, both left behind. No ransom required. Speak up.

A poll is now up on the blog about our race and party, so please go on over and vote by November 21st. Due to the growing popularity of the 10K event, we'd keep our race to a 10K only (or, perhaps, a 10 + 1 in honour of 2011). The question is: when should we hold it, and how should we avoid another two-week-apart race/party situation? Whatever we decide, I'd like to include the dates in our calendar. If you have specific suggestions, include them in the comments to this post. Your choices are:

- Spring race and brunch/Fall evening party
- Race/brunch only OR Evening party only, likely in fall
- Combine the race and party, held at brunch-time rather than evening

We also forgot to mention our Shore Things Directory, which Sharon has now updated (the long delay is my fault, not Sharon's). Please let Sharon or myself know if you would like a PDF copy via email.

A reminder that if you're able to volunteer for the club, please contact Eileen. With a big thank you from me!

Monday's and Wednesday's walks will be a companionable 5-6K. Come out for an airing at 7 pm.

Birthday girls Ruth and Marilyn, I hope your day is splendid. Happy birthday! Do you realize that we have 10 people in our group who share the same birthday (well, actually they share the same five birthdays)? Is that statistically significant (and, if so, of what?), or just a crazy coincidence?

Thanks to Norma and David for letting us invade their home. You have a lovely place and have inspired me to get decorating. Thanks to everyone for the delicious feast - I am still full.
My vote is spring 10 + 1 and fall dinner.
I would love an updated copy of the shorethings directory - thanks to Sharon for compiling it.
I won't be out Monday. Will try for Wednesday but I have a very busy week so if I am not there, don't wait.

What a great evening it was, on Saturday. Thanks Norma and David for being such wonderful hosts! And thanks to all of my Shore Things friends for making this a year to remember. Helen, what an awesome book you created about Iceland. You captured our adventure so well, I was transported back as I read and looked at the pictures, over and over again. Sharon, I'd love a copy of our directory. Like Trish, this is a crazy busy week, so...some things never change.

Goodness, everyone, I always forget the most important things! Like thanking you all for my wonderful and unexpected gift. I haven't taken them off since I've received them, except to sleep. Most appreciated.

I hope to be out on Monday, but will be at class on Wednesday.

If you're voting, please do so using the poll, so we don't end up stuffing the ballot box with duplicate votes. Just let us know when you've clicked in.

Thanks!

P.S. Looking at the calendar, a possible date for the Shore Things race might be Sunday, April 3rd -- the day after Harry's Spring Run-off, in case you might consider doing both.

The date I'm suggesting for the party in 2011 is November 19th... as Libby and Yuen both have birthdays the Saturday before.

P.P.S. We've had multiple requests for the Quinoa dish recipe. Can the chef please provide -- maybe email me? My email address is disguised at the bottom of the left column on the blog.

(If there are other recipes you'd like, please say so here.)

Thanks Norma & David for hosting a wonderful evening of splendid food and company. I am the owner of the couscous plate & spoon...I don't know why I forgot all about cleaning up on Saturday...I can't even blame alcohol! Norma I will call you to arrange to collect them if that's ok.
I should be out on Monday/Wed.

Norma and David --what a great party! Thank you for all your hard work setting up and cleaning up! And as everyone says, the food was marvellous. Next year I plan to stave myself all day prior to the party, so I can do better justice to it!

Helen --your medal "quips" were so right on and so witty! The advertising jingle world's loss is our gain!

Re the race and party next year -my vote is for a spring Shore Thing Race and fall dinner.

Sharon, thanks for handling the directory -yes, I would like a copy please.

I'm in Montreal this week visiting family, but plan to be out Saturday.
I'll just walk as far as I can and then return to Tim's for coffee and will wait for you guys to get back.
I'm excited to be back with everyone!

thanks to everyone for last Saturday's party. Wonderful hosts, brilliant group of Shore Things (and adherents), and amazing food.

Someone (Alisa???) agreed, I believe, to do a Shore Things recepie book. Great idea!!

I won't be out on Monday or Wednesday, or Saturday. Maybe I'm in that "never again" phase...........

See you tonight

Thanks to Norma and David for hosting such a delightful party; it was SO much fun! Like Trish, I'm still full....
Thanks again to Helen for all of the medals, her witty quips, and her ongoing support of this magnificent group; and to Eileen for quietly taking part in everything, without telling anyone!
Sharon; I'd love a copy of the ST directory; and thanks to you for putting it together.
I won't be out tonight, but plan to be at Shoppers on Wednesday. Not out on Saturday, as it's our church's Christmas Holly Berry Bazaare, and I've got a table; so does Cheryl, Eva and Cynthia; so if anyone wants to do some Christmas/Hannukah shopping, come out to St. Dunstan of Canterbury (56 Lawson Rd) from 9am-2pm in West Hill. Have a great week, everyone!

Aren't we all awesome! Norma and David, what an utterly beautiful home. Simply beautiful. Norma, I love your art pieces. Each pallet is a story unto itself. Thank you both for hosting our fun evening.

David, happy belated birthday. Helen, you spin magic. Eileen, you are a great team player and leader. Debbie, you amaze me. You look so good. Bless you. Cynthia I missed you.

I will attempt to send out the directory ASAP.

Wow, I just finished reading all the postings for the 15th! I don't know what I can add that hasn't been said except maybe a big DITTO! And an especially big thank you to our hosts Norma and Dave for opening up their home to us.

Unfortunately I won't be out Wed and have to work Saturday. I hope to be out the following week (wed).

Just FYI, the Robbie Burns 8K sold out on Nov. 12th! That has to be a record. We have 11 official Shore Things signed, plus Elaine and Marilyn who might have signed up for the Wow team. Nov. 12th. I still can't believe it.

The poll results so far are overwhelmingly for a spring race/fall party. I'm proposing Sunday, April 3rd and Saturday, Nov. 19th (the 3rd Sat. in November, for 2011 only). Anyone opposed?

A quick note to let anyone who drops by the comments know that Darrell Atherley passed away this morning. You might remember Darrell as the extremely tall Wow walker who invariably and effortlessly won just about any race he was entered in. He was at the first Alfie Shrubb we did a couple of years ago. I'll distribute more info as I learn it, so that condolences can be sent to his widow Joan and their family.
