Walks: Mon. July 5 & Wed. July 7

Wow, let's prepare ourselves for the possibility of a hot, humid week. If the humidex ratings turn out as predicted, we'll take it easy. If the weather surprises us with something more reasonable, we'll kick it up.

Here's how I suggest we treat the distances:

Monday:
KW Half: 6K
Reykjavik Half & Chicago Full: 8K
Reykjavik Full: 13K (which I'll break into 8K & 5K)

Wednesday:
Everyone: 6K

A heads up to the Reykjavik Full racers that the next long walks will be 27K and 29K. Be sure to stock up on race nutrition beforehand. This might also be a good time to consider the state of your shoes.

See you 7ish.

I won't be out on Wednesday as I'll be in the country. And Monday I'm walking at 8.30 with Charlotte and Lou-Ann - if anyone else wants to join us?

If the thunderstorm they're talking about happens early to clear the air, I'll be out for my 8K. If it's ongoing, or doesn't come, we might all be safer staying home tonight.

If not out tonight, I'll take a page from Dawn's book and walk at 7 am Tuesday from home.

If the heat wave persists on Wednesday, I'll do the same thing -- walk early in the morning on Thursday to beat the heat.

Let us know what you're up to.

I walked to an appointment at noon and I'm feeling the after affects, so I won't be out tonight even if a storm clears the air.

Hope to see you Wednesday unless it's the same intense smog/heat...brutal!

I don't see any reason to punish ourselves in the heat and smog. I'll be skipping tonight and walking with Bob tomorrow morning from home, starting about 7 am. Call me if you want to join us.

We did walk on Tuesday morning, but it was 30˚C Humidex already!

In future, let's go by the Wow Powerwalking rule: if it's triple-threat weather (with warnings for heat, humidity and smog), we'll cancel our evening walk. In those situations, it's best to walk very early in the morning or late at night, wearing reflective gear/lights if it's dark, of course.

...Or to cross-train in an air-conditioned space instead of walking. Does drinking a cold beer count as cross-training?

Just spoke to Maureen and I also just got in. It is very, very muggy (did anyone notice?). We are staying home and I will try for Saturday, instead.

Helen, have a wonderful time away. I understand that 1/3 or the US of A is also suffering from this heatwave. So dress and drink accordingly. Don't forget to stop and smell les fleurs.

This is too hot for me. Besides, I'm (of course) behind schedule trying to get ready for the conference.

See you all when I get back.
