Walk: Mon. Feb. 23 @ Loblaws

Now here's a Shore Thing, marching along confidently by herself, even after a late night the night before. Way to go, Olwyn.

Monday's an easy night for the Chilly gang, only 6K, with 8K for the ST10s. Have a look at the 10K route, which is easy to adapt for both. See you at 7 pm.

BTW, Saturday's race planning meeting was very productive, and you'll get the latest on that in a separate email.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Never mind the snow. Winter is on its last legs now; good thing our own legs still have plenty more power in 'em.

Hi All,
Nice photo, Helen! I didn't realize how 'colourful' my walking ensemble was! (!)
I'll be working again on Monday (@!%^#*& opera!), but will be out for our Wednesday walk; see you all then. Olwyn

Hi everyone,

I'm writing from Fort Lauderdale, the day after the A1A half marathon.

Thank you, Helen, for the good wishes!

It was lovely --but then how can walking in 24 degrees and sunshine be anything but?

I did not beat my personal best - I clocked in at 3:01, but I knew that fairly early on, so I just enjoyed the course, and it was gorgeous. Much of it was parallel to the ocean, which was just 50 feet away. The race started at 6 am, and the road was closed to traffic,so it was lovely and quiet and you could hear the sound of the waves crashing and see the sun sparkling on the water. Part of the course was also through a state national park....a path through trees and flowering bushes..the air was positively perfumed.

Part of the reason I knew I would be unlikely to improve on my personal best was that I had decided to ignore the taper concept, and speedwalked every day prior to the race (as well as walking around a lot sightseeing)--I just could not resist walking in the beautiful warm sunny weather ...I knew what awaits me back in Toronto!

I'll bring the medal to show you Saturday-very pretty, one side has a seashell design.

Anyway, I'm back home tomorrow (Tuesday) and will see you all Saturday. Goodbye shorts and halter top, hello tights & pants and layers and gloves....

Cheers

Debbie
