From Eva re: Mudcat race registrants. Not all registrants seem to have received the email so it is being published here.

The short version is that anyone registered for the Mudcat can do the Grand Caledonia instead, either in Caledonia if the event still goes ahead on October 9, or virtually if the race is shut down due to COVID concerns.

There will be no further deferral but there is no mention of reimbursement.

It also doesn't say whether there will still be a Mudcat race in May. A bit confusing. We'll try to get clarification from the race organizers and post update in the comments.

Greetings from the Grand Caledonia Half Marathon and Harvest 5K!

We hope you are all keeping safe and healthy through these challenging times.

We are reaching out to you today in order to inform you that this fabulous race has recently been taken over by new management, and we would like to introduce ourselves!  The Runner’s Den Hamilton, also the organizers of the Hamilton Marathon, are excited to announce that we will now be bringing you this beloved event in Caledonia!

As we navigate this transition, we’ve noticed there are many messages from our participants and we will be responding to all of these as soon as we can.  In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as we remove the barriers from the pandemic and get the race up and running!

The purpose of this email is to be completely transparent in our intentions for the 2021 Caledonia event.

With the vaccine roll out well underway, we are extremely hopeful that we will be able to execute this event in October.  As such, we are moving forward in the planning of this scenario.  Our intention is to put together an event that adheres to the social distancing guidelines set out by the Ontario Government.  For this reason, we will be opening up registration to a limited number and adding spaces if/when we get approval to do so.

Registration will open to the public on September 3rd for the Grand Caledonia Half Marathon and the Harvest 5K. We will not be opening registration for a 1K kids run as we feel we do not have the ability to run this event while adhering to appropriate and safe social distancing guidelines.

If you are receiving this email, it is because you chose to defer your 2020 registration to 2021 for either the Caledonia event or the Mudcat event that was sadly not able to run in May of this year.  We would like to offer you first right of refusal to the 2021 Caledonia race. Please note that there will be no deferrals to 2022.  If it turns out that we are unable to host an event in the fall due to a spike in COVID-19 case counts, we will switch to a virtual platform.

In order to register for this event, you may do so HERE: https://raceroster.com/events/2021/50897/grand-caledonia-half-marathon-and-harvest-5k-2021

Registration will appear closed but you will be able to register using access code GC2020D.  Registration will be exclusively available to you for one week before we open up the spots to the public on Sept. 3.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you for your patience and understanding during this time.  If you have further questions that were not answered in this email, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warmest Regards,

Michelle Greenspoon Pauls

Goin’ to the chapel

Are those bells I hear? Yes, indeed and they’re for Jan’s son Alan getting hitched to his beloved Daiva this Saturday. Jan is still unsure whether she will be out with us in the morning as she may have other things on her mind, but if she does, give her your best wishes to pass onto the bride and groom. Two down, one to go, Jan!

Weekly Walks

Getting the band back together

Nothing new, this Saturday morning is a walker's-choice distance. Conditions appear to be ideal, so perhaps we can get a good sized group out?

Weekday walks are on various days and various times. You know who you are :-)

Please share if you can.

We all scream for ice cream!

I will not be out on Saturday - having a sleepover with the girls - grand daughters to me, cousins to each other - so far, I've learned that two is very different than just one on her own - last sleepover before school takes over their lives.

Is anyone walking Monday morning? Does Tim's 2 work at 9:00 am?
