Walks - Sat. Oct. 3 - Wed. Oct. 7

Wave Action
Join us Saturday at Tim's - those training will likely start at 7:30; others at 8:00 am. Distances are: Corning 16 k; Niagara 20 km.  Others will pick a distance that suits them.

Race weekend for Corning - good luck to all who are doing this event.

Mid week walks - distance for those training is 10 k both days.

Monday evening locations - a poll shows that there is equal interest in meeting at Loblaws and at Starbucks (Coxwell south of O'Connor). It is helpful if those walking evenings sign in so others will know who will be at which location. Meet at 7:00 pm

Wednesday evenings - Occasions at 7:00 pm.

Day timer walkers know their routine & check with each other.

Travellers - wish you were here - enjoy - think of us pounding pavement.

Announcements:
Margy and Rainer did the Cavan 10km race and as you can see from the picture there was a serious group of walkers out front.

A perfect Saturday, lovely countryside and the weather ... not too hot and no rain.

The walking section was very close right to the end. We had excellent competition from some local walkers. Margy and Rainer ended up in 4th and 5th place. Margy missed 3rd by less than 1 minute. Still a fun effort and the Buttertarts were as delicious as promised.
Margy - looking good

I will be in Cornng with Sharon, Ruth, Cheryl, Eva and Ralph. We would appreciate everyone doing a little dance in praise of sunshine - weather forecast not looking so great!
I won't be out Monday either as we will be driving home from Corning.
I won't be out next Saturday either as I have a wedding Friday night and the last time I partied with this group, I didn't get home til 4 a.m.
Have a good walk this weekend whatever your distance!

Have a great race in Corning, Trish and your team! I'll be out Saturday at 7:30am for a 16k; also doing a 'please-don't-rain-on-me' dance for tomorrow. Great photos, and congrats to Margy and Reiner for doing so well in the Cavan 10k; those hills are killer, but it's always worth it for the butter tarts!

Congrats Margie & Rainer... Margie is does not look like you are doing a quick stroll as you told me... well done! Good luck Corning Group... sunshine dance it is! I will be out Saturday for an 8:00 walk and will be bringing one of our long lost traveling buddies.

Bob has done a 20K route, which we'll start at 7:30 from Tim's. Best of luck and fine weather to our Corning-bound friends. Happy training to our Wow group -- let Bob know if you need a copy of the long route for Sunday. And congratulations to our buttertart king and queen!

Good luck and good weather for the Corning group. Well done, Margy & Rainer. I won't be out tomorrow as I came back from a great holiday with a not so great cold.

See you all next week.

I would like to put in my two cents worth regarding Monday nights. The most important thing to me is that we walk as one group. We often don't even have a lot of people out on Monday nights. I think we won't be getting all of the walkers who voted out at their respective locations on Mondays and we won't have strong showings for either location. I would prefer to simply switch locations to accommodate everyone--one or two months at Starbucks and one or two months at Loblaws.

Thanks.

Hi, Kim and friends,

I share your sentiments in principle, but the reality is that not all of our members live in the Beach -- and when we meet at Loblaws, they "vote with their feet" and don't join the group. In my opinion, the ideal is to get as many people out as possible, and if it means having two meeting places that are relatively close to home for big enough groups to walk together, then that's a good thing.

If we have two locations, the people who live closest to each one will be more tempted to come out, and those in the middle will have a choice. That's a win all round.

I plan on walking tonight - I didn't vote as I really don't care (I realize that was an option too!),so I'll go with the consensus tonight - wherever anyone has a preference.

Is anyone who needs to walk 10k interested in starting earlier, if it's too difficult to make an earlier time, no problem.
Please sign in as to where you are walking from, I have no preference.

Monday night, I believe our north-enders will be away (returning from Corning). So why don't we start from Loblaws tonight, as Jan doesn't mind driving over. How many people (besides me and Leverne) are walking 10K tonight?

I am working at home so could start earlier and 10k is okay.

Happy to walk from Loblaws. I'm a first timer walking from there, so could you tell me where we meet? How much earlier?

Anonymous said...

Carol, we meet just in front of the Loblaws at Gerrard and Vic Park. How about starting at 6:30

Ok - I can be at Loblaws at 6:30 I think. Leave if I'm not there.

If we go to Rosetta via the longer route (bottom of Warden), go through the park and a bit further, that's the turnaround for 10K. Those who want a shorter route can head back sooner.

I can be at Loblaws at 6:30. What about Bob?? Is Lynn not coming tonight?

Helen said...

We can both go for 6:30 on Monday, Jan. Don't know about Lynne, but she's a "no preference" girl about meeting place as well.

Are we meeting at Loblaws on Monday nights going forward? If so, are we meeting at 6:30 or 7pm? Either works for me, but it would be great to know in advance.

I can't put comments on the blog from my iPhone (don't know why, as usual) so I couldn't respond before now. I can't make it tonight as I got home too late for a 6:30 start. See you Wednesday.

I'm planning on being out on Wednesday; 7pm from Occasions I believe; hope to see a few of you there. Had to work Monday night, so didn't make it out.

I will be at Occasions tmrw. See you there.

Bob and I will be at Doc Soup on Wednesday -- sorry to miss the walk from Occasions.

We might end up walking to the Bloor Cinema to get part of our distance in.

I won't be out at Occasions tonight (Wed) as I've been home all day with a bad cold. Hope to see you on Saturday, if I'm feeling better.
