Walks: Sat-Wed, Aug. 11 to 15

Want to help improve Toronto's trail network? Take the survey.
Saturday: KW (13K), Toad (10K), Detroit Half (6K – ha!), Detroit Full (14K). From Tim's, starting at a very reasonable 7 am. I'm told it will be cooler on Saturday, but stay tuned for an earlier start should the Humidex rise. If it's wet, remember: there is no bad weather, only bad clothing.

Monday: KW (8K), Toad & Detroit Half (6K), Detroit Full (11K). Lou-Ann again hosts the coffee and pool mornings on Monday and Wednesday this week. Please sign in to say whether you'll be walking in the morning, afternoon or evening.

Wednesday: KW (10K), Toad & Detroit Full (8K), Detroit Half (6K). Ditto re: sign ins. We will eventually return to regular evening walks later in August; timing will depend in part on the heat.

For those doing the Midsummer Night's 15K, note that race kit pick-up begins towards the end of the week if you want to get yours before race day next Saturday (there's also race day pick-up). If you have no suitable attire, or want to doll yours up, Trish is holding a tutu touch-up or tulle-up party this Sunday, Aug. 12 at 1 pm. Contact me if you don't have the coordinates.

The following weekend, Sat. Aug. 24, we're invited to meet on Toronto Island with the Toronto Powerwalkers for our 24K (they'll be doing 21K). You could do less, of course. We'd catch the 6:35 am ferry to Ward's Island and stop at The Rectory café for brunch after. (All with the proviso that we'd stay put at Tim's for an earlier start in the event of another heat wave.) Speak up if you're in.

As always, check the comments to see if I've forgotten anything this week.

Me Again! Just wanted to send out a "call for detroit training walk outside of the schedule". So...
I'm going away to camp the weekend of Sept. 21st and we are supposed to do 19km that Sat. (22nd). I'm hoping someone is able to join me On the Friday morning (21st) to do it instead of Sat (22nd). Jeanny is going to run/walk with me so it'll work if no one is available but we'd sure like more company if anyone is able/willing. Let us know....thanks

(I know it's far away.....but well.....can you tell I'm finally showing a healthy amount of anxiety about doing the marathon?)

I will be out Saturday for the "reasonable 7:00am" start time, not sure at this point my distance, however I might need to do more than the 6 so my dress fits in two Saturdays. I unfortuntely will not be at the Island walk (boo hoo) as that is Lindsay and Nathan's big day and I don't want to be late or tired! See you Saturday.

Seems reasonable to begin a walk at 7, so count me in for the 14 km. The invite from the PowerWalkers sounds like fun but right now I am taking one day at a time.

Helen, I'm in for the Toronto Island walk on Saturday Aug. 25. Might not do the entire 24k, but a good walk and brunch sounds great.

I am aiming to be out in the morning with Cheryl in tow. Will be weather dependent. Distance to be determined.

Olwyn said...

Hoping to be out Saturday morning for something less than 14k; will walk with Trish and Cheryl as we're training for the Midsummer's race next weekend.

See you at 7 for 14. There's a certain symmetry to it.

Thunder and Lightning! Bob and I are going to take a pass on Saturday morning, and try to get our distance in later in the day. Will check on the comments to see if anyone is organizing anything specific.

Olwyn said...

Waiting for the storm to pass; will go out later when it settles down. Back to bed for me!

I would like to do the 14km, but not too quickly! I am not free this afternoon but am happy to meet any time tomorrow morning.

Barbara, it seems to be just the two of us so far to go for a walk tomorrow morning. I can meet you at our regular Tim's for 8 am and I am more than willing to walk a distance that is good for you. I will wear my GPS so that we know when to turn around at the half-way mark.

The invitation is open to everyone. If there is a preferred time, just let me know. I'll check back for confirmation in a couple of hours.
