Walk: Mon. Sept. 21 @ Loblaws

The weather was perfect on Saturday – wherever we were walking. On the Island, the Shore Things had three finishers in the top ten (Ruth, Arlene and Libby) and five in the top 20 (adding Debbie and Lynne). And we all finished well. See our results at this link. We needed all our extra grit to haul home the goodies in the fully loaded swag bags.

Meanwhile, back in the city, a game group was tackling the stairs down to Taylor Creek Park.

And, while I'm on that subject, this is a general call out to those who have been MIA for any reason over the past few weeks. Come out, come out, wherever you are! We've missed you.

Before I post a new schedule for the fall, I need to hear from you, and soon: what do you want to do? What do you want out of this... relationship. Please sign in with your opinions and goals.

See you at 7 pm for a 6-8K recovery walk.

Strange race result. If you click through, Ruth is listed third, but I was at the finish line and didn't see any walkers come in ahead of her.

Hi there Helen,
We are getting very excited about the Minds in Motion - K W Walking Classic and just wanted to let you know that Lee Scott is going to be leading a mini workshop on Saturday at our Expo. It will take place in the Waterloo Public Square at 2 p.m. and we hope you will join us for a Welcome Walk in Waterloo Park to follow at 3 p.m..

THANK YOU SO MUCH for supporting our race this year ... we needed another year under our belts to take on a half marathon but we are starting to plan already for 2010 and the Half is in the plan. More details on that at the race. Thanks a million to all ... it will be good to see you!!

For those who can't be there Saturday we will have race kit pickup available on Sunday for out of town walkers.

I ditto Bob's comment. Ruth had a fabulous race time- a PB extrodinaire!.There were no walkers who passed Arlene and i and we were close to first off the start. Ruth took off ahead of Arlene and I and there were only 4 girls in between who we followed as our pace bunnies- so I have no idea how 2 "so called" walkers ended up ahead of her. I would hazard a guess the first place finishers were in fact run/walkers.
Kudos to ruth who in my mind was first among the walkers!

Yes, indeed, Ruth was awesome! Done us proud. Was a great day on the island. We couldn't ask for better weather or more beautiful sites.

Helen: I'm up for another half (Hamilton or Angus Glen). I'd prefer Angus Glen just because it is closer - not registered for either, as yet.

Bravo Ruth; you were indeed the first walker; the two women ahead of you were run/walking, and should have registered as runners.
I'll be out of commission for the next few weeks, due to the opera, but hope to be back in November; I'll try and make it for a Saturday morning, if not too tired from the late night before. Best of luck to all of you doing the Kitchener 10k!
Helen, my interests throughout the winter months are to keep on walkin'! I'm interested in 'shorter' races through the winter (the Resolution Run, the Robbie Burns) as I just don't have the time for long training walks, but want to keep it going.
Thanks; see you all soon; and thanks to Jan and Stacey who kept me company the whole 21k on the Island on Saturday; it was a splendid walk! Olwyn

Hi all,

Ruth, to repeat what others have said --you are amazing. You just flew by! Kudos also to Libby and Arlene, just minutes behind Ruth.

I'm struck, as always, by how similar walking a marathon (or a half) is to childbirth. While it's underway you're wondering what the hell you're doing there, and swearing you'll never do it again, then three days later you're wondering when you can do it again. (OK, with labor it's feeling you CAN, sometime, do it again!).

So, like you, Susan, I'm up for another before winter....Hamilton or Angus Glen both sound good.

I'll go wherever the majority goes.

See you all Saturday.

Debbie

It was a great race on Saturday and Ruth was amazing! I agree the 2 'walkers' placed ahead of Ruth were in fact runners.
For the fall schedule I am with Olwyn and will be looking at shorter races...and agree with Debbie, that during the race I always wonder why I am subjecting myself to the torture!
I won't be out tonight, see you all on Wednesday.

Hi,
I'm interested in Hamilton...downhill all the way sounds like my kind of race.

Not sure if I'm going to make it tonight, but will definitely see you Wednesday.

Given the rain and the half marathon and a couple of people at home with colds (including Bob), I'm going to pass on tonight's walk. We'll see you on Wednesday, weather and viruses permitting.

My preference for next race is Hamilton. It's only a half-hour's drive further away than Angus Glen. But no hills (except downhill). Same date, though, so we can train together and then choose our own race.

I was planning on walking tonight, but if it continues to get a bit heavier in the "rain" department I may chicken out.

Congrats to all the "Women Walkers on the Island", sounds like you had a wonderful day and amazing times!

I'm wimping out - didn't realize it was raining until I was headed home - enough excuse for me to stay in.

Great day Saturday - glad to have Stacey and Olwyn to keep me company for the whole walk.

I'm not sure I'm ready to start talking about the next labour....

Sat. on the Island was sooo much fun...I'm anxious to do it again too! I don't know much about Hamilton or Angus Glen so I'll naively agree to either....alexis
