Walk: Sat. May 29 @ Tim's

If you only knew how hard we train on certain Wednesday nights! This cross-training exercise is called taking a licking. We're tough, man.

Saturday's distances:

Reykjavik Half: 6K
Chicago Full: 10K
Reykjavik Full: 16K

To beat the heat and still have a chance for coffee with the crew, the 16K group will start at 7 am.

Start time for the rest of the gang remains at 8 am for now. As summer progresses, we usually move our start time up to 7:30, probably in mid-June. Speak up if you want the early time to kick in sooner.

Saturday morning, we'll also be thinking of Niki, who's in Ottawa for her mother's memorial service. Michelle will be there as our Shore Things representative.

Before I go, some information about the garden tour in the Beach. If you recall, Norma arranged tickets for us last year. This year will be a little different. Here's info from Norma:
The Toronto Botanical Garden has chosen the Beach as the focus for their annual Through the Garden Gate tour on Father's Day weekend, June 19 and 20. This means the Beach Garden Society has cancelled their own annual garden tour to allow this to take place.

Tickets can't be purchased through the Beach Garden Society but can be purchased through the Toronto Botanical Gardens or the outlets listed below.

Visit www.torontobotanicalgarden.ca for further information or purchase tickets at number of nearby retail outlets including Bill’s Garden Centre on Pape Avenue.
Strangely, it looks like none of the ticket outlets are actually in the Beach! Odd, if you ask me.

I'll be at a press preview of the gardens on June 1st, so I can tell you all about it. But don't wait too long to get tickets if you're interested, as Through the Garden Gate occasionally sells out.

I am not sure if I will make it on Saturday as we have our race on Sunday. I may come for a short 5km and coffee. Looks like the humidity will be gone for Saturday.

Hi all,

I'll be out Saturday either at 7 am for the long haul or at 8 am, will decide upon awakening!

Helen, the Beach garden tour sounds fabulous, but I will still be on Vancouver Island that weekend, having done the Tofino half the previous Sunday.

Next year for sure!

And --breaking news --I'm SO looking forward to sharing lots of ice creams with you guys during your weekday walks this summer (okay, I'm looking forward to the walks too)--I have found a place to rent in the Beaches and will be moving there in July. Yippee!

See you all Saturday,

Debbie

Barbara -- I hope you'll excuse my sievelike brain for forgetting the date. Good luck to all of you in the Toronto Women's Half on Sunday. Wear lots of sunscreen, drink lots of water, and hug a firefighter for me. Is it too much to hope that someone will take pictures?

Debbie, Glad you'll be avoiding that long commute. Congratulations on your beachy new abode.

Arlene and I will not be out Saturday. We walked Thursday. Ruth and I braved the heat and modified hills on Wednesday.
Arlene and I will be in the Women's Half on Sunday- I have committed Arlene to consider this a training only walk- we'll see???

good luck to the Women's halfers. Last year I remember it was quite chilly, but doubt that that will be a problem this year! Check out those nicle little behinds on the firefighters - maybe take a picture?

I'll be out Saturday. Have to do more than six, so will look at doing 8/9.
