Walks - Saturday Feb. 2 - Wednesday Feb. 6

Congratulations to our Robbie Burns racers
Medal is well deserved

Let's pretend that Saturday will bring milder temperatures, clear enough sidewalks and the opening of Farm Boy (across from Tim's) - how could you resist joining us?  Let's meet at 8:00 am for a short walk, coffee with friends and check out the new store (and maybe free samples). Yes, indeed, that is life in the fast lane - I look forward to seeing you then.

Our Robbie Burns racers did really well despite the cold and the conditions. Libby and Arlene deserve special mention - guiding and being guided in a race with slush and slippery conditions is really tough - well done, ladies. I stand in awe of you both. They finished the 8 km in 1:08:05. Ruth finished  in 1:03. Dianne Broad finished in 1:03 with dry feet in her new shoes (what brand are those shoes, Dianne?). Nice to see successful results, ladies. You are all impressive and inspiring.

Trish wisely decided to withdraw thinking of her starring role as Mother of the Bride and those damn high heels she plans to wear - good choice, Trish.

The weather in the past two weeks has challenged some of us but I, for one, want to get outside and move again. Hence, this list of the usual walks during the week:

Sunday walkers meet at 8:30 am at the Running Room on Queen Street.
Evening walkers meet at 6:30 pm at Loblaws (Monday) and Occasions (Wednesday). This Wednesday is Doc Soup so several of the regular walkers will be missing in action.
Day time walkers meet on Wednesday mornings - Charlotte sends a confirming email.

Keep well and be safe and warm.  See you Saturday.
Warm up treat

Walks - Saturday Jan. 26 - Wednesday Jan. 30

Baby, its cold outside

Plan AJoin us on Saturday at 8:00 am at Tim's. It might be cold; it might be slippery....just saying. I suspect that some will walk from this destination regardless....

Plan B - if the weather is bad and the sidewalks are unsafe, some folks might prefer to meet downtown and walk the PATH. Park at City Hall and walk from there to Union to the Bay and/or to the CBC building and/or to the CN Tower.  Leave coats in car (just a small unheated passage to go through between the parking lot and the Thomson building). At least it is dry and safe underfoot!

Please sign in so that others know your plans.

The weather has made it difficult to get outside for walks - surely next week will be better. So here are the other options:

Sunday walkers meet at the Running Room at 8:30 am

Day time week day walkers meet at Tim's on Wednesday at 9:00 am.  Charlotte will send a confirming email. Let her know if you want to be added to the list.

Evening walkers meet at 6:30 at Loblaws (Monday) and Occasions (Wednesday).

Announcements: from Libby - Robbie Burns Race is this Sunday in what promises to be another snowy January day. Best of luck to all the Racers. Stay safe on the course.
Old man weather has certainly thrown us lots of action this week. Fortunately (or Not) there are no training schedules in progress. Stay safe everyone.

Perhaps time to plan for a race in late spring- marathon or half anyone?

To those travelling (lucky folks), enjoy. To those who are injured, ill or recovering, we send you our best wishes and hope you will soon be back in action.

Walks - Saturday Jan. 19 - Wednesday Jan. 23

Plan A - Join us at Tim's at 8:00 am on Saturday for a walk, a chat and a coffee. We don't need to go far but we do need to get out and move.

Plan B - if the weather is bad and the sidewalks are unsafe, some folks might prefer to meet downtown and walk the PATH. According to Jan,  last year we parked at City Hall and walked from there to Union to the Bay and/or to the CBC building and/or to the CN Tower.  We left our coats in the car (just a small unheated passage to go through between the parking lot and the Thomson building) and were warm and dry and safe underfoot!

So please sign in and state your destination so that others will know. Sometimes the weather forecast is worse than the weather......but it is good to have a Plan B.

Other walks during the week:
Sunday walkers meet at the Running Room at 8:30 am.
Mid-week daytime walkers meet at Tim's at 9:00 am on Wednesday.
Mid-week evening walkers meet at Loblaws (Monday) and Occasions (Wednesday) at 6:30 pm - weather permitting.

Let's keep moving all winter - sign in and join in.

from Olwyn: Found this interesting article on walking speed and thought it might be of some interest to the group.

Here is the link - worth a read - Studies show that past the age of 65, your walking speed is a surprising reliable predictor of survival. Website is Very Well Fit.
