Walks: Sat. July 28 to Wed. Aug. 1

The hikers complete TMB

Well, The one thing I forgot to do before going on vacation was write this post. So now I’m dictating it as we drive into Northbrook Foodland with the basic materials that allow you to sign in if you’re walking this Saturday Monday or Wednesday!

Forgive me for forgetfulness, but please do sign in if you coming for a walk.

If memory serves the distance on Saturday for the Maritimers  is 12 K, but check the sidebar under race schedules to be sure.

Hope to see you next week! Have a good time and be safe.

With a bit of team effort, I've (Susan) added photos. Have a great time camping Helen.

Walks: Sat. July 21 to Wed. July 25

A photo op with one of our morning walk groups
Maybe it's the (slight) break in the hot weather, but people are starting to sign up for fall races – I know that having a goal and a schedule helps me stay motivated. How about you?

Another good reason to come out to join us on Saturdays or during the week – plus coffee, company, and sometimes… beer. In case you haven't checked the comments on last week's blog, we are shifting the Wednesday night walk on July 18th to Thursday, July 19 at 6 pm. Still at Occasions, but with a finish at the Godspeed Brewery patio. Sign in if you'll be there.

Note that, next week, some of us will be at camp or cottages, so our ranks might be thinner than usual. Check to see if you'll have company for your walks.

From Libby:

This week’s race training distances are as follows:

Maritimers long distance of 16K
Corning ladies long distance 12K
Both races require weekday distances of 8 and 8.

Trainees are always looking for company on their long walks so please sign in if you wish to join them! The fall race list is expanding...thank you Olwyn (Scotia Half) and Helen and Bob (Maritime 5K and Half – that's two races, three medals).

Remember local races of Jazz fest next weekend with distances of 20, 10 and 5K…something for everyone. The Shakespeare Rules race is coming up in August...any interest please let Libby know. Links to race details and registration are in the sidebar on the blog web page.

Welcome home to Ruth, Susan, and others. We look forward to hearing your stories!

From Helen:

Please send any post-race news and any Shore Things pictures to me. I'm on blog duty next week as well. Thanks, and take care!

Walks: Sat. July 14 to Wed. July 18

Here we are, photobombing your inbox!
Summer. It keeps on keeping on, doesn't it? Let's stay hydrated (but not too hydrated) and dress for the weather, with lots of sunscreen. Plus… see my suggestion below.

Saturday is going to be another hot one. I'll be a devil and suggest we start our walk just one half hour earlier, at 7:30 am. I can already hear you screaming. But you'll thank me when it's over. Sign in to declare your start time, to ensure you'll have company.

From Libby:

This week's training distance for the Maritimers' is 14K Saturday, 8 and 10K during the week. Corning Half racers need to walk 10K for their long walk, another 6 and 8K during the week. Remember to add a hill or two to your shorter walks as it really helps with endurance training!

Anyone interested in a fall race?? Our list is looking very thin!

From Bob:

As there's no Wednesday morning walk from Lou-Ann's, why don't we walk Wednesday evening from Occasions at 6:30 pm, followed by gathering at Godspeed Brewery. Think of it as hydration!

As always, sign in for the walks to let others know you'll be there, and when.

From Susan:
The hills are alive with the sounds of hikers!
And from me: Waving to all Shore Things, wherever you are. Be happy, be healthy, be safe!

Thursday 5 July 2018

Walks: Sat. July 7 to Wed. July 11

Alligator? Crocodile? Either way, watch out!
Welcome to the Shore Things blog, wildlife edition. You never know what kind of animals we'll find on our walks – come out and see for yourself.

Saturday looks to be fair, so far. Our pirate racers have 12K on their schedule and 8K for Corning. That's doable. Let's keep them company, if we can. But, as always, Saturday's distance is of your own choosing. There's a Sunday morning group meeting at the Beach Running Room, too.

Pirates have 8K and 8K scheduled for Monday and Wednesday; Corning wineglasses have 5K and 5K. Please check the blog to see if anyone will be walking in the evenings, as summer tends to make a shift to morning walks for those who are available.

Please check in with Lou-Ann if you're walking from her house in the morning.

Our race interests list in the right sidebar seems pretty short this year – perhaps the extreme weather has something to do with that. But a fall race gives us something to train for, and it isn't too late to sign up. Have a look at the list and see if you'd like to join in for a race – from 5K to a half marathon.

Only puns, from heron in.
Have a hoppy day!
