Walks - Sat. Oct. 1 - Wed. Oct. 5, 2016

It's a technical nightmare
 No photos this post

Join us on Saturday, at Tim's at 8:00 am. The suggested distance is 8 km - some may choose to do more or less.

Some will walk Sunday morning from the Running Room on Queen St. at 8:30 am.

Mid week walks remain the same time and locations: 7:00 pm meeting on Mondays (Loblaws) and Wednesday (Occasions). Be sure to sign in on the blog so others know your intentions.

Our race season is winding down but isn't over just yet. Ruth and Libby are doing Run For the Toad this weekend - have fun - hope you have trained for hills.  Olwyn and Helen are in the final weeks of training for Scotiabank - 16 km is the distance this week.

Congratulations to all racers last weekend. Montreal Rock and Rollers did us proud rocking to the finish of both 10 and 21.1 km on a brilliant sunny day. It was a great event with lots of music along the route. Montreal is a fun city for a race weekend get-away.

Rainer enjoyed the famous butter tarts of the Cavan crowd after his brisk hilly 10K race walk! He is encouraging others to mark this event on their calendars for next year.

Announcements: from Libby and Helen - start thinking about 2017 - what races interest you? Give it some thought; talk it up; come to the ShoreThings year end party with your race ideas.

Lastly, we send our very best wishes to those who are struggling with injuries and/or illness. You are in our thoughts.

See you Saturday!

Walks - Sat. Sept. 24 - Wed. Sept. 28

We were supposed to be training...

Join us Saturday at Tim's at 8:00 am for any distance of your choosing - I anticipate a small but keen crowd will gather. Olwyn - you are scheduled for 18 km this weekend - let others know if you would like some company.

Many are heading to Montreal for the half marathon or the 10 km walk. Wishing everyone a safe trip and a good race. There will be lots of rock and roll music to help us dance our way along the course. Remember, have fun.

Some are heading to Caven to eat buttertarts and race. Enjoy and make us proud.

Sunday - some will meet at the Running Room at 8:30 am, on Queen St.
Evening walks at 7:00 pm on Monday (Loblaws) and Wednesday (Occasions).

A few folks had to cancel the trip to Montreal due to illness or injury or life in general - you are on our minds and we wish you well.

Lastly, there are folks travelling afar - lucky folks, I might add. Enjoy, Travel safely. Bring back lots of photos and stories to share.

For celebrating good races and new Grandma to be, Sharon.

For those training for Montreal and Scotiabank, I suggest a 7:00 am start, for a distance of 16 km.
Libby suggested Plan B, in case of stormy weather on Saturday - meet at Tim's at 7:00 am on Sunday. Sign the blog comments section so others will know your plans - especially in the event of a storm.

Sunday morning, as usual, a few of us walk from the Running Room on Queen St.

from Bob - Bob has found an Italian restaurant for a group dinner on Saturday night located only a few blocks from the hotel in Montreal. Please let Bob know if you want to join in for the group dinner or if you have other plans. Restaurant can accommodate up to 20 folks in a separate room. Napoli Pizzeria, 1675 Rue Saint-Denis, Montreal, QC H2X 3K4

from Susan - reminder about The Terry Fox run on the island on Sun. Sept. 18 - a lovely way to spend a morning and support a great cause. Any interest?

Walks - Sat. Sept. 3 - Wed. Sept. 7

Enjoying our Pool Party

Join us on Saturday at Tim's (yes, it is Labour Day weekend). Looks like we'll have a bit cooler weather - greatly appreciated by those who have long distance walks scheduled for Saturday. If you are not training, I suggest an 8:00 am start for a distance of your choice.

Those training for Montreal need to complete 20 km - I suggest starting at 6:30 am (option two is a 7:00 am start) so be sure to sign in and state your preferred start time.

Those training for Scotiabank need to complete 14 km - again, sign in with your preferred start time or join the Montreal walkers.

Weekday distance are for Montreal walkers: 10 and 10 km. Scotiabank: 8 and 10 km.

Labour Monday, I suggest meeting at Tim's 2 at 8:30 am for our walk.
Wednesday evening meet at Occasion's at 7:00 pm.

Announcements: from Stacey - she is unable to go to Montreal. Is anyone interested in using her race registration?  Contact Stacey. She also has a reservation at the race hotel for Saturday night - let her know if you'd like the room (otherwise she will cancel it). I think the hotel is fully booked now.

from Rainer: Owen Sound Bayshore race: Sunday morning was mild with temperature of 21C, good race weather and a walker start of 7:30am. A scenic course along the Owen Sound inlet. They had a 10km PowerWalk category unfortunately a small turnout. Margy lost out on 3rd place by 24 seconds ... however she finished in good form and looking good even though we had rainfall during the race and were drenched.
Post race food was limited to Bananas, Gatorade and Muffins. Definitely a race worth doing but not as good as our favorite the 'Buttertart Race' aka: Cavan Hills on Sept 24 where the food makes the race worth it. Home made Buttertarts, home made baked beans and other treats ... we can hardly wait.

from Susan: Is anyone interested in doing the Terry Fox Run on Ward's Island?- a lovely location for a 10 km walk. Wherever the location, the Terry Fox Run raises money for cancer research - a very worthwhile cause. Here is the Ward's Island information:
Registration: 9:00 am
Official Start: 10:15 am
Open Start: 10:15 am - 2:00 pm
Location: Ward's Island Association Clubhouse (WIA)
Take Toronto Island Ferry to Ward's Island And Terry Fox Champions Will Meet You at the Boat.
Ferries to the Toronto Islands leave from the Ferry docks at Queen's Quay W which is located south of Queen's Quay between Yonge Street and Bay Street.
The Ward's Ferry schedule is as follows: 8:45am ~ 9:45am ~ 10:45am ~ 11:45am ~ 12:45pm - boats leave promptly at scheduled times.
