from Rainer:Robbie Burns race is Sunday Jan 24 entry is $40 till Dec 31. However as of today only 50 walker spots left ... always a good event ...

from Libby:
GoodLife on May 1 has added a 10K route to their race.   A good option for consideration for Spring!
Montreal Rock and Roll is open for registration. There is interest in this race. Check it out www.runrocknroll.com/montreal/en  Registration fee Half Marathon is $75; $45 for 10K. Libby will post more information on potential hotels in the coming weeks. The train is an excellent mode of transport with great pricing if we book early. Anyone interested in a marathon distance?
Let Libby know if you have signed up for any races, as usual!

from David: Thought some might be interested in a series of articles on financial readiness and implications for retirement recently in the Globe.
Check this out - mix of retirement income to reduce tax implications:

Once you click on the above link, you will find other articles also listed, such as will we outlive our retirement savings?  Check out this series of articles.

See you Saturday.

Walks - Sat. Nov. 21 - Wed. Nov. 25

It's a Great Find, Cheryl
Join us Sat. at 8:00 am at Tim's for a walk - any distance is good distance.  Mid week walks:
If you are interested in day time walks, please check with Dawn.
Evening walks on Mon (Loblaws) and Wed (Occasions) at 7:00 pm. There may be other locations which suit you better so please check the blog.

What a great year end gathering we had thanks to our charming and generous hosts, Paul and Lou-Ann. Great food; great folks; a lovely event. Thanks so much Paul & Lou-Ann.

Announcements: from David - an article on "Use it or Lose it" just to encourage us to keep moving. Check it out:
from Libby: Some discussion seems to indicate interest in the fall Montreal Rock and Roll Race and perhaps the Run for Toad Trail Race with a new 12k course and walk start.
We should plan for at least one or two spring races to keep us walking this winter!. The GoodLife Half Marathon is a nice course. Both Sporting Life and K-W Minds in Motion on the same day in May (8th) are great races. The WALKER ONLY K-W has 5, 10 and Half Marathon distances and it is always great to support this race. Let Libby know any decisions!

from Eileen: Helen did a fabulous job with the calendar again!  Thank you for keeping up that tradition.

Be safe if you are travelling - we live in sobering times.

from Libby: Training for races helps motivate us to walk longer and faster and push us out the door no matter the weather! The social part of training as a group is much more appealing! So let’s plan for a race or two in 2016! Check out the right side of blog for race information listed by month. It has races we have done and some we may want to consider. Also, the Race Site link at the top of page. Browse for races further afield. Walker friendly marathons (or half) in Bermuda, Honolulu, London and Dublin.  Need I say more?
Reminder- A last minute consideration- this Sunday at Whitby Waterfront Race- Walker friendly. Distances 5K, 10K. www.events.runningroom.com.
Some have signed up for December races- Santa Shuffle December 12th in Burlington and the Resolution Run December 27 at the CNE grounds.
Canada Running Series opens registration for 2016 Race season next week- Includes Harry’s Spring Fling (April 2), Yonge Street 10K, Scotia Bank Marathon/Half and Oasis Zoo Run. Discount for registration for more than one race.
Let Libby know when you register for a race and she will ensure you have a training schedule on the blog!

from David: recommended reading article in the Globe (Sat. Nov. 7) on issues re: when to apply for OAS and CPP - the pros and cons of taking it before 65, at 65, or after 65. I can't post it here (technically challenged) but if you email David or me, we can send you a scanned copy of the article.

See you Saturday
