Walks - Sat. June 27 - Wed. July 1

Island Time again....
There seems to be two options this Saturday. Some are heading to Toronto Island. Here is the info:
On Saturday June 27 we are planning a walk on Toronto Island followed by brunch at the Rectory Cafe.  The Rectory opens at 11 am so if we catch the 9:30 ferry to Ward's Island we will arrive around 9:45. We can go for about 6-8k from Ward's Island to the Lighthouse (distance of your choosing) and back to the Rectory. Training for New Albany? To do 10k this weekend walk to and from the carpark you'll get the additional mileage in!

Ferry  $7.25 for adults and $4.75 for Seniors.  To avoid disappointment we should plan to be at the Ferry terminal between 9 and 9:15 am.  Parking may be a bit of an issue so I suggest car-pooling to reduce costs.  Here's a link to the parking lots in the downtown core:

One of the most reasonable (but it's a bit of a hike) is the 5-storey Green P Lot by Hotel Novotel - if you park near the Yonge Street entrance it's about 1k to the ferry. The daily max rate is $10

Send an email to me at jzemaitis@gmail.com to let me know if you are interested so I can book a time with the Rectory.

Likely some will meet at Tim's at 8:00 am and walk from there. Please sign in to let others know your plans....especially with two different locations. New Albany walkers need to do 10 km.

Monday night at Loblaws at 7:00 for 6 km. Wednesday is July 1, so I suggest that we meet at Tim's 2 at 9:00 am for 6 km. Again, please sign in - really helps when time/locations are changing.

Announcements: from Helen: Some have been talking about doing the above race on October 25th, and in fact Bob, Libby, Lynne and Helen have already signed up for it. A separate email was sent with information about this race and a cottage rental that may appeal to some.Niagara International Half Marathon should sign up before the next price increase July 1.

Walks - Saturday June 20th - Wednesday June 24th

Join us on Saturday at Tim's at 8:00 am for a walk. Suggesting that we aim for 6-10 km, but the choice of distance is up to you - just do it! Training starts this week for the September New Albany Walking Classic with a distance of 8K on Saturday.

Mid week walks continue. Day time folks know the routine. Evening walkers meet at 7:00 pm at Loblaws (Monday) and Occasions (Wednesday). Join in.

Announcement/Question: We often move to a 7:30 am start time on Saturdays when the weather gets hot, so please let us know your preference.

Summer is just around the corner. With spring races finished, and Midsummer's Race cancelled this year, perhaps a few may wish to try the Beaches Jazz Festival Tune-up July 12th. Distances of 5,10 and 20K are appealing. Proceeds go to support of Toronto East General Hospital.

Let Libby know if any of you sign up and she will add your names to race interests.

Sorry for the late blog this week!
Has anyone seen this man?

Walks - Sat. June 13th - Wed. June 17th

The Niagara gang
Join us of Saturday at Tim's at 8:00 am for a walk - distance is whatever suits you that day. Good friends and conversation make the distances effortless. I don't believe we have any official training schedules this week for a change.

Monday & Wednesday walks follow the usual routine - but please let others know your intentions. Day time folks connect through Dawn. Evenings at 7:00 pm at Loblaws (Monday) and Occasions (Wednesday). The rain (or threat of rain) kept some people home this week - I guess it is better to be safe than sorry.....

Niagara Race: perfect weather; Rainer was a fabulous cheerleader; he met us at the 7km mark and supported us as we crossed the finish line (known here at the ‘finish wine’, since everyone got a bottle of wine in their race kit!).  Ruth came in 26 overall at 2:46:05 chip time ... followed by Margy at 86 overall and at 3:05:10 chip time. However all our gals Eva, Olwyn, Trish and Iona came in under 3:30:00. We met Kathryn Sweitzer - most inspirational, telling of her first marathon in 1967. She was the only female in an all male race.  Since then, her bib number, 261, has become synonymous with being fearless, and facing one’s challenges by getting out there and doing it!

Announcements: from Helen - she has 3 free passes to offer to the
Toronto Botanical Garden’s big garden tour is this Saturday and Sunday, this year in Lawrence Park. Helen plans to go Sunday - care to join her? Let her know directly.  Here’s a sneak preview from her blog:

from Charlotte: whose is tasked with updating the Shorethings directory so that we can reach everyone. Please give your contact info (name, address, phone, email) to Charlotte. Or at least, make sure she has your email.
