Walking - Sat. June 28th - Wed. July 2

Debbie and her daughter Bonnie - beautiful!

Celebrating weddings is always special and this was especially so for Debbie. Mazel tov!

Let's gather on Saturday at Tim's - 7:30 am is my suggested start time just to avoid the heat. The distance for the New Albany group is 12K. Others, of course, may choose to do less (or more?).  Sign in and let others know your plans and your start time.

Weekday distances are 8 and 5 K respectively. Next week we add in the Corning Half schedule. When shall we meet during the first week of July?

Is anyone interested in walking Tuesday morning - Canada Day? I suggest Tim's again, Leslie & Lakeshore, at 8:00 am?
Announcements:
from Libby & Dawn: Some are interested in the Toronto Women’s 5/10K race August 23rd before the pool party. It is on a newly paved start area in Sunnybrook park. The trail is not closed to the public so may be crowed but it is only 5 or 10K.  Medals and T-shirt are included. The cost is $45 or $50 depending on distance and the price increases June 30th so do hurry up and commit! Seems like a good race requiring minimal training!
July races are a trail race Limberlost July 13 (a mere 14K on trails around five lakes) and closer to home, the Beaches Jazz Tune-up- July 27th.  Beaches race is in support of Toronto east General and registration is only $30 for any 5, 10 or 20K distance.
A reminder as well to let Libby know of races you register for...Anyone else for Midsummer’s August 16th?
from the Toronto Island gang: We had a great time at Toronto Island last weekend. Thanks to all who helped organize it.
Travel safely and enjoy - to all those who are vacationing in the weeks ahead.
Welcome, Jim.
See you Saturday.

Walks - Sat. June 21 - Wed. June 25

Yes, this Saturday, some will gather in time to catch the 9:30 am ferry to Toronto Island for a brisk walk or leisurely stroll followed by brunch at the Rectory. Others may prefer to walk from Tim's at 8:00 am. Both are great options, as long as you walk.

Island walk & brunch info:
About 15 of us plan to go. Helen hopes to get to the terminal on Friday to buy books of tickets. That means
a) that we can get right on the ferry, and
b) that the fare will be 10% off —  $6.30 rather than $7 for those under 65. However, it’s only $4.50 for 65 and older — please confirm with Helen by early Friday morning if you are attending but not listed below or if you need a senior ticket. She suggests we catch the 9:30 ferry to Ward’s. Bob has reserved at The Rectory, which doesn’t open till 11 am. That should give us time for 8-10K.

Yes planning to attend: Eileen, Olwyn, Dawn, Charlotte, Lou-Ann, Trish, Frances, Barbara, Alexis, Jan, Susan, Bob & Helen.

Please confirm if attending:  Ian? Lynne? & Leverne?
Anyone else?

Please let others know your plans on the blog. It helps. Lots of construction on Queen St. sidewalks - consider yourself warned.

Week nights - Monday at Loblaws and Wednesday at Occasions - both at 7:00 pm. Distances are approximately 8 and then 6 km.

Announcements:
Libby: Next Half Marathon is New Albany in Sept. Training required for Rainer, Margy, Ruth and Arlene is 12 K. Both Ruth and Arlene are not available Saturday.
I believe the Island group will try for 10K (end to end) and this is a good workout for those signed up for Midsummer's, Aug. 16th!
Please remember to advise me -Libby- of any races you have signed up for!

Lou-Ann: The pool party will be on Sat Aug 23 with details to follow as we get closer. Thanks so much, Lou Ann.

Walks: Sat. to Wed., June 14 to 18

Hooray, Shore Things!
It's 10K for the New Albany folks this Saturday. Why don't we all keep them company – for as much of the route as you choose. Monday and Wednesday, it's 6K each. Easy peasy.

A reminder about the Island walk on June 21st. Please sign in in the comments or email Helen if you'd like to join the bunch. Of course, there'll likely be a group at Tim's, too, if you'd prefer that.

Just a quickie this week. See all you cute little monkeys on Saturday.

Friday 6 June 2014

Walks: Sat. to Wed., June 7 to 11

This should tell you where my head is at right now.
I'm late, for a very important… blog. No excuses. But here's some nice things to look at in a lightning message, to give you a place to sign in for the next three walks.

First, no distances to speak of, as the New Albany racers are just kicking into gear with their training. 8K on Saturday, and 5K and 8K on Monday and Wednesday, if you're counting.

Next, congratulations to these gals for their wonderful performance beside the Falls. Well done!

Great showing at the Finish Wine at the Niagara Women's Half!
Thirdly, the east end is having a gigantic yard sale this Saturday. Notable will be the street sale along Barker Avenue, says Eileen. Get out your pennies and make room for some treasures.

Finally, at least I think it's finally, two dates to mark on your calendar:

One is June 21, when Bob is trying to arrange a walk and brunch on the Island. We'd like to pre-purchase books of tickets to avoid the line-up, probably aiming for the 9 am ferry to Ward's with brunch at The Rectory. Numbers would help. Let him know who's interested in the comments.

Another is the annual Coxes' (aka Saints') pool party – let Lou-Ann know your preference of the two dates in August, asap. I'm guilty myself. Sorry, Lou-Ann!

Anyone registered for any new races, let me know. And that's, that's, that's, that's, that's all, folks.
