Announcements:
from Rainer: Margy and I are back in Toronto .... enjoyed some Florida sun .... and also did a 5km race in St Petersburgh .... what better way to spend a holiday than to do a race .... nice medal ... fun race no walk section but great food afterwards ... they even served beer for the finishers ... at 8:15 in the morning .... Margy was 14 out of 25 in her age category ... Should also mention they have a race in January that has a 5km walk category .... great excuse to get out of the cold ....

from Helen:
we’re getting a sudden increase in spam comments. They usually get captured, ending up only in my inbox but a few sneak through and have to be manually deleted. If they continue to worsen, we’ll probably have to invoke a comment verification feature. I know people hate this, and it does tend to discourage from posting. It doesn’t even stop human spam 100%, but it does foil the spambots.
from Libby:
It seems race season has started in earnest. Olwyn starts us off next Saturday with the Harry Rosen 8K...anyone else doing this race?
Training schedule has been updated with distances until October!. Lots of race interests this year. Please check the list and inform me (Libby) of addition or deletions.

from Susan:
I hear wedding bells!
See you Saturday.

Walk Sat March 22 - Wed. March 26

Thought for the day

Well, not sure that spring weather will be joining us on Saturday for our walk....maybe next week? Let's pretend, anyway.

Maybe we will see some birds and buds on this week's walk! In fact, our route may include a quick stroll to and through Allan's Gardens, just to make us believe in spring, again.
Training distance for KW on Saturday is 12K, Cleveland 16 K, and the Niagara ladies is 12K. Weekday distances are 8 and 6 for KW, 8 and 8 for Cleveland and 8 and 5 for Niagara. Lots of choices!

See you Saturday.

Walks - Sat. March 15 - Wed. March 19

Cool Dude Charlie  -  Check him out!
I had to edit Dawn and her bikini out of this photo....I'm sure you'll understand ...but Charlie sends his best wishes to us here in snowy Toronto.

Spring like weather is scheduled for Saturday, so let's get out there. Meeting at Tim's at 8:00 am for whatever distance suits you. Jan designed a great route for us last week - a few new streets, some variety and about 14 km. Thanks Jan. Let's do it again. Let's keep on the streets if necessary to keep safe under foot.

Training?
KW- 16K for Saturday. then 8 and 8.
Cleveland Half distance is 14 k  then 6 and 6.
Niagara ladies -10K then 6 and 6.
Company makes training easier so come out and support those who are training.

Announcements:
from Libby:  Ian Barron, co-ordinator of the Whitby marathon, has contacted us to drum up walkers for the event. www.winmarathon.com.
They have half, 10 miler, 10K, 8K and 5K distances with a claim from him for a walk category in each. Only the 5 and 10K are listed as walk in registration. The race is the long weekend - May 18 for those who may be interested. Anyone interested?  I may be talked into that one - it is close by!

I keep giggling at Charlie's photo, so if there are typos....well, at least, I had a good time typing.

And, lastly, we're leaving this behind now....I promise....(love the red branches, Eileen; great shot)

See you Saturday - let's git'er done!

Thursday 6 March 2014

Walks - Sat. March 8 - Wed. March 12

It's all about the hardware

Spring break has arrived but where is spring? Many of you will be vacationing but the rest of us will carry on....without you. Enjoy your get-away and think of us back here, pounding the pavement.
Saturday morning, meet at Tim's for 6-12 km.
Monday evening, meet at Loblaws for 6 km
Wednesday evening, meet at Shopper's or the dome for 6 km (check the blog).
Of course, some walkers are off work next week and may choose to walk in the day time, so please check the blog and let others know what you are doing and when.
Training distances: We have people training for 3 races.
KW- Saturday is a big 14K, 8k and 5k.
Cleveland is 12 K, 8k and 5k
Niagara Women’s will be a mere 8K, 8k and 5k.

Announcements:
From Libby: lots of travel stories to tell....and please let Libby know if you are interested, considering, already signed up for any races. The Harry Rosen and Yonge Street 10k are approaching as short distance races for anyone looking for a spring tune-up!
Registration for the Mercedes Benz 10k in Oakville (April 27th) has a price increase next week.
There is an increasing interest from the WOW walkers for the New Albany walking classic September 7. Anyone???

From Rainer:
Some information regarding Chilli race .... a tough day weather wise however disappointing to see all the problems with runners in walker races. Looks like this could be another race that will drop their walking category.  We as walkers and competetive walkers need to support the race organizers that still do support walkers in their races. Just had a letter from Ian Barron who organizes races in Whitby begging for more walker support in his WIN race May 18.
Would be great if Rainer or Helen or someone could post the K-W walking classic poster. See anyone you know? (sorry I don't know how to do it).

Let's get out there and do it!
Two of our more serious walkers, training hard.
