Walks: Sat-Wed, May 26-30

Olwyn would like to invite you to the Canterbury Creative Arts Show and Sale next weekend, May 31 to June 2, which includes her own lovely photographs. Details in the poster.

For this weekend and the days to come, here are the details.

Saturday, let's stick with an 8 am start. This is an alert, though, that we'll soon (possibly next week) move to an earlier start time (likely 7:30, at first), to beat the summer heat.

I'm suggesting 11K*, along the boardwalk to Silver Birch, but adding the "the peanut" on the way out (that's in one direction only). If you prefer 14K*, follow the same route back (doing the peanut twice). For 8K, skip the peanut entirely, and do the boardwalk to Silver Birch. And, of course, you can always do less. Let common sense and your body be your guide.

*Actually "and a bit".

What is "the peanut" you ask? It's that blobby-shaped route around the south side of Ashbridge's Bay. A detail is below.

Monday and Wednesday, I'm looking for new routes. Last night, we accidentally did 9.25K, but it was pleasant and went quickly. C'mon, Shore Things: be the change of scenery you wish to see in the world!

week of 21st - 26th May

the route.......

Beautiful route, stunning scenery, lots of drink/fruit/chocolate/chip stops along the way and lots of groups of people cheering us on.   They had their chairs, their picnics and their special cigarettes - so we would inhale deeply as we passed by.   The route was mostly shady, except for the last few kilometres which were along the road, but we had the sea beside us and a lovely sea breeze to keep us cool

Medals, refreshments and finally, party......  The "official" is my friend Liz at whose place we had the party.

Sorry, I'm not very good at arranging pictures on the blog.   But wanted you to have a taste of Bermuda so that you will seriously consider coming next time.

Oh, almost forgot....... walking on Monday 21st from Tim's 2 to Rosetta McLean park, start time 9.00 am.   Wednesday usual evening walk from Shoppers at 7.00 for whatever distance you wish, and Saturday 26th from our usual Tim's at 8.00 for 10 k.   For those of you 'in training' for something, please follow the schedule.

Finally, in case you are wondering, this is P Dawn doing this blog, as Helen is away.    PLEASE SIGN IN to let us know your walking intentions.

Monday 14 May 2012

Walks: Mon to Sat, May 14 to 19

Norma and David at the 2012 SportingLife
Congratulations to all the Sporting Life 10K finishers. Norma and David both had personal bests, with Norma walking the race in a handful of seconds over 1:16. Ruth and Arlene finished in 1:14 and Libby in 1:19. Great times! You guys are amazing.

Detroit Marathoners, I have posted your schedule on the blog. You should be able to view it, but let me know if you have trouble.

Monday and Wednesday, let's try for 8K. There's a big group going to War Horse on Wednesday, so please sign in if you're walking instead.

Saturday will be in the 10K zone. The schedule for our marathoners doesn't tick up for a couple of weeks yet. You might want to go more or less. Please always listen to your own body.

It was good to see our injured friends on Saturday. Charlotte, Cynthia, Val and Barb, please take care of yourselves and heal quickly!

To that subject, Norma has sent along this article from the Globe & Mail about bone meds. Clicking on the image should make it legible. Or you can download to your desktop.

Get out your sun screen and Body Glide and enjoy this fine weather.

Monday 7 May 2012

Walks: Mon. to Sat., May 7 to 12

Powering in to the home stretch
Arlene and Elaine had a great day for the Toronto Half. With a 2:53 chip time, you had excellent results, gals. I hope there are pictures to commemorate your race! By the way, Lee Scott placed first among women with a pace of 6:37 and chip finish of 2:14. Wow. We also want to hear all about the 25th annual Bermuda 25K walk... and the sunny recuperation afterwards.

Monday and Wednesday, let's go for at least 8K. We always welcome route suggestions from the Shore Things, but if it's anything tricky, please let us know in advance so that no one gets lost.

Saturday, at least 10K for those who are training – but, always, your distance is your own choice. Same message as above about routes. Send in your suggestions, and I'll update the blog.

Detroit Marathoners, this is your last couple of weeks of easy walks. I'll be posting your schedule in the top right column of the blog soon.

Happy birthday, Janet V. Hope you'll be up for rejoining us soon.
