Three walks - 30 July, 1st & 3rd August

Peaceful view - The Burnt River....................

Saturday's walk from Tim's at 7.00 am is 11k.

Monday is a holiday, and I am wondering if people would be interested in a walk from Tim's starting at 7.00 or 8.00 am (it is supposed to be hot agin).   This walk is 8 k with hills - we might have to use Lee's famous hill again!!!!!!

Wednesday's distance is 6k.    The morning walkers will meet at the Loblaws on the corner of Bayview and Moore, at 7.30 am for this walk, followed by breakfast.   The evening walkers will meet at Shoppers.

Please sign if with your preference for all three days.   Helen returns early next week, so I wanted not to have her worry about sending out a blog immediately upon her return - hence this three day epistle.

Happy Birthday to Sharon, next week.   Have a great long weekend.

Monday 225th and Wednesday 27th July walks

Happy group of Shore Things - before we started.......
Beautiful day, beautiful route, well organized event.    But, the heat was  merciless.    Lots of nice shaded areas, but also lots of open meadows with sun beating down.    A few of us (Dawn included) did not do the whole route, being wise enough to recognize when we were not feeling too well.    Others did the whole route, including the final hill.   Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of that hill as I didn't get there.

One of the many hills - but beautiful.
Monday and Wednesday, according to the schedule for the actual Run for the Toad, are 5 - 7k with intervals.     The morning walkers will start from Lee-Ann's house at 7.30 am.   Please bring your bathing suits.    Please sign in as to whether you'll be joining the morning or evening groups.   Evening groups will be leaving from the usual places.

Saturday 23rd July - Tim's

This is from Helen, at Whistler.   I have asked her to bring back a couple of these four our use.   Possibly one each to hold up ourselves.

I'm sending this earlier because I'm going to be away for a few days.    I'm arbitrarily suggesting 10 k on Saturday morning or less if you wish because it is going to be incredibly hot.   7.00am is the usual starting time, but some of you might wish to start earlier.   It is particularly important to sign stating your preferences, as this Saturday several of us will be going to Ayr to the Toad orientation session.

Speaking of the Toad - those of you who have registered for it and have taken any classes with Lee, will have received an email from her with a training schedule for the Run for the Toad on 1st October.    This suggests four days training per week.     My question is, are there Toad people who would be interested in this?   Secondly, I am not quite sure how this fits in with the KW half a few days before.   Perhaps that will become clearer when it's not too hot to think...........

Also, please remember to take lots of water and drink, drink, drink.   It might also mean that you have to buy extra water (I had to do that recently) depending on your distance, so take some change with you.

That all for now.

Monday 18th & Wednesday 20th July 2011

Cooling down after a hot walk

The schedule says 6k and 5k but we can do any distance we feel like doing!!

Monday morning walk will be from Lou-Ann's starting at 7.30 am.    Wednesday morning's walk will start from Debbie's address at 75 Hambly Ave.  also at 7.30. This is one street East of Lee, and runs north off Queen street.

Please sign in with your preference for walking, so that your buddies will know who will be where at what time.

Walk: Sat. July 16 @ Tim's

Happy smiling faces, for Shore!
No one has to feel like a shirker for doing only 8K this Saturday – that's what's on the schedule! Good luck to everyone Toady on the following Saturday, whether you do the full 25K or not. Keep notes, take pictures, especially of that killer hill, and most of all have fun.

Dawn will be taking over blogging duties while I'm busy doing other things. Have great walks, everyone! Stay cool and be safe on the roads.

P.S. For those thinking of doing the Midsummer Night's 15K this year, keep in mind the next rate hike deadline, which is July 31st. There's a link to the race registration on the blog.

Walks: Mon. July 11 & Wed. July 13

The Shore Things encounter another bridge
Hi, kids. It's 10K and 10K on Monday and Wednesday. In theory, Monday's walk includes six 400-m intervals – but the hot, humid weather may put a crimp in those plans.

Leverne (and happy birthday to you, girl!) has already declared her intention to walk with the morning group – starting at 7:30 am from Lou-Ann's; bring your bathing suit and towel! – rather than the evening on Monday. This is the place to say where you'll walking from, and when, on either day.

I have a feeling my nose will be stuck irredeemably to the grindstone this week. I guess there are no walks or swims for the wicked, either. Be safe, and cool.

Walk: Sat. July 9 @ Tim's

Perfect symmetry
Well, here's a nice surprise. I've learned that no one intends to do the full 25K on July 23rd. That means, drumroll, that there's no need to do 18K on Saturday! Are you relieved? Disappointed (other than our good friend, whose name begins with an S)?

Let's meet for 10K (or the distance of your choosing) at 7 am, sending us off bright and early for the rest of our weekend.

Michelle and Leverne are our birthday girls – the last of our July babies. Or should I say babes? Happy day to each of you.

Sunday 3 July 2011

Walks: Mon. July 4 & Wed. July 6

Taking a little break during the 16K on Saturday
Hope you all had a relaxing Canada Day weekend (happy 4th of July to the Americans in our group)! This week is our last tough one before the event: 10K and 10K on weekdays; then 18K on Saturday.

If you'll be walking on Monday and Wednesday mornings, please declare yourselves here, and let Dawn know. If you aren't able to walk early in the day, let us know, too, so that we'll be sure to wait in our usual place, usual time.

Now, I'll get the birthdays right: Hope they were and are happy ones, Arlene and Cheryl. And congratulations to Debbie on starting the exciting next phase of your life!
